My truck needs a new starter every couple of years, always installed by NAPA certified shops and always replaced for free. But now I live in the boonies and I had to fix it myself. This new starter blows away any of the past started! Spins very fast (for my experience). Also the casting is beefier than the old starter. Also, comes math a quality passing spec sheet! Wow!

Ordered for a 1997 F-150 with 4.2 standard transmission 5 speed - starter, like most, are bolted to engine with just 2 bolts (some starters do have 3) and then there are 3 wiring connections. Should be an easy quick job, but it took me 4 hours, because with a vehicle this old bolts do not always come out easy. Also, with this engine, it is very difficult to access the upper mounting bolt. Because the solenoid is so close to bolt head, a socket will work, but a ratchet with no extension will not allow a straight on alignment of socket. And, there are lots of parts in the way when you try to do various extension combinations. My bolt head was not in perfect condition to start with, and of course I rounded it off. I had to cut / grind off the rounded bolt head to get the old starter out, and then use vise grips to get the bolt out - and even that was tough as I could only get about 1/8 turn per vice grip turn. Once I got that old bolt out replacement was easy. I did not need to "splice in" the wire that is shown in photos, as my vehicle's wire had already been replaced with a round connector from the original "slip on" connector.

This starter is working excellent on my 1992 F150 351W E4OD. Spins the engine with ease and bolted right up! Great price!

I would give zero stars if I could.This failed on the very first start, the pinion didn't retract and ruined the teeth on the flywheel leaving me with a $1200 repair job replacing the clutch and flywheel.This product did 20x the cost of the part to my truck in only a few minutes.Absolutely DO NOT BUY

I swapped out the original factory starter on my 1984 F-150 (302 V8) for this PMGR starter. Just a matter of moving the relay to starter cable to the same side of the existing relay and then running a trigger wire from the starter side of the existing relay down to the starter.The difference in starting performance is night and day. Restarting the truck after I've driven around feels like I'm driving a modern vehicle! 2 seconds and the engines turned over and running.

I have used DB electrics products in everyone of the autos, trucks to date and finally after 3 1/2 years one has failed me! Wow what a bummer but I'll live with that and this company does take care of its buyers/customers as I had to a problem with a noisy bearing on one alternator that was only a week old and they shipped me a new one to replace it, quickly I might add. This starter has had some very hard use so I am not really bummed by its failure after this much time has passed. I'll just order another new one and move on. Thank you DB for a quality product that beats rebuilt junk from my local parts store any day! That rebuilt junk also cost twice what these units do people.
