Q: is this batting safe to ue in baby quilts

I have made many quilts including for babies and used this. It is light weight and natural. When I first made one and presented it a midwife said it could make baby too hot, but we can do that with other covers and we all know the danger of that. My last grandchild now almost three was swaddled in her quilt and put down for sleep. By the way when I make quilts I use no other wadding as I have found this to be the best all round Hope I have helped J.B

Q: Once the quilt is made, is it OK to iron after washing? I'm making baby quilt which will need to be washed and ironed.

I have used this batting for 30 years and love it. You do not need to iron a quilt made with this batting. This is an heirloom batting which crinkles after laundering in the traditional way. If you choose to iron this, do not use steam as it flattens the loft of the batting and once flattened, it will remain flattened. If you do not want a crinkled effect, choose another batting, there are many to choose from. Just a word of warning, if you choose a 100 per cent cotton batting, it will definitely shrink.

Q: how do you pre shrink? Is it machine washable?

The idea with this wadding is to give an heirloom look to your quilt i.e slightly wrinkled once washed. If you do not want this you need to load the wadding into your machine with no powder etc, set it to fill at 30 degrees BUT do NOT let it wash. Leave it in the machine for about half an hour then empty and spin. Do not tumble dry, and provide support whilst it is damp. I have used this wadding for about 10 years and have always pre shrunk it this way.

Q: ive already got one queen wadding my daughters now wants a thicker quilt ,can i sew two together

If you are quilting then it would be easy to make it thicker as long as your machine can take it and your wrists! If your queen quilt is already made you could make another and popper them together which would give you choices about winter or summer use. Good luck.
