Asking the Right Questions: A Guide to Critical Thinking

Excellent book
I think this is one of the best books on critical thinking I've ever had the privilege of reading. The chapters are written in an engaging and informative style that stimulated thinking and learning. I wish I had had this book in my first few philosophy and political science classes, or for that matter in high school.

(Do You Know What I Mean?)The scenarios in this book were fantastic and though provoking. It was up to date and not written in typical textbook format. A very easy read.

though not amazing.
It is as advertised. Needed it for a class and it is mildly interesting, though not amazing.

Disappointed!
Disappointed...the authors have a firm grasp of the obvious. Some valid ideas and thoughtful discussion, but I expected a bit more.

Served its purpose, but I will not use it again
I used this book as a textbook for an undergraduate introductory philosophy course with a Critical Thinking component - I was asked to put the course together at the last minute, and was searching for a textbook that was not prohibitively expensive. Unfortunately, the under-handed tactics of modern academic publishers make it so that it is nearly impossible to review the contents of any of these kinds of textbooks before purchasing them. Had I been able to do so, I would not have purchased the book because it displays one major shortcoming, namely, the lack of any discussion on the formation of arguments - inductive and deductive reasoning, syllogisms, premises, soundness/validity, etc. That said, the textbook was useful to some extent, although I think the attempt to present current and "hip" examples drawn from popular culture borders on pandering. It did include some good and accessible discussions of the value of critical thinking, as well as information on how to evaluate certain kinds of propositions and statements with a critical eye. And, the exercises included within did provoke some thoughtful responses from my students. However, due mainly to the aforementioned omission, I will not be using this book again. I would consider it more appropriate for high-school students than for college undergraduates.

Fantastic
I bought this book for an English class. The book is a summary of English 101 and 102. It's compact and gets right to the point. I'm adding it to my personal collection.

Good
Bought this book for my daughter who is in college for one of her business classes. It's exactly what the class requested and she needed.
