Perfect for Summer!
We are using this as a summer reading resource. One page per day keeps my daughter learning and excited to read. I like the small size and the length of the stories. Short and to the point.

this is a favorite
We homeschool and this workbook is a favorite. Nice variety of short, educational, non-fiction stories and the questions truly do focus on comprehension and reasoning, not the language and word skills I've seen in other books like it. Some of the stories use standardized "fill in the bubble" format (which I prefer); some have you just circle the answer.

Short stories and non-fiction pieces for young readers
This is probably more appropriate for first grade readers. I use it with my six-year-old and there are usually two or three challenging words per story. (I highlight them and the next time we open the book, we review them.) Like all of the Ready-Set-Learn books, they contain stickers to place on each page and also to a printed "race" on the inside cover of the book; once all the pages have been read, the child wins the race.Until I had a child, I never would have believed anyone could be motivated by stickers. But it works. My quibble? I like precise language. After each short story/blurb, there are reading comprehension questions, many of which are imprecisely worded. While this provides a teachable moment to explain that some questions can have more than one correct answer, this is a reading comprehension book...for second graders. How tough would it be to tighten up the questions?(I suppose I could consult the answer key--yes, there's an answer key in the back!--but...no.)

Great reader!
The selections in this book are interesting for both me and my daughter. Ater each reading there are several ?s to verify comprehension. The reading level is just right or 2nd grade.

Comprehension
My son and I read these books together. He is struggling just a bit with his reading, and we read these books together. They are pretty good books. They are small, but they are good.

Almost Identical book sold here
This is a great book for reading comprehension either for 2nd graders or for older ESL students. BE ADVISED though, that another book "Practice Makes Perfect Reading Comprehension Grade 2" has SEVERAL identical reading passages and questions. I was disappointed that I ordered them both since they have so much of the same material.
