Suprised by how much I like this "lower cost" GI
Sanabul Essential BJJ Gi: Unexpectedly Awesome for Budget-Minded Grapplers TL;DR: Looking for a durable, comfortable, and surprisingly affordable BJJ gi? Look no further than the Sanabul Essential. This gi exceeded my expectations in every way, becoming my go-to choice despite originally buying it as a backup. Bang for Your Buck: I was initially drawn to the Sanabul Essential's budget-friendly price point, unsure if it could compete with my usual high-end brands. Boy, was I wrong! This gi punches way above its weight, offering exceptional quality for the cost. It's quickly become my everyday training companion, leaving those pricier options gathering dust. Built to Last: I'm not gentle with my gear, and the Sanabul Essential takes it all in stride. I chuck it in the washing machine (hot water, no problem!) and dry it on high heat without hesitation. The minimal shrinkage, even after four washes per week, is truly impressive. The sturdy stitching and reinforced seams also instill confidence, knowing this gi can handle the roughest training sessions. Comfort is King: The Sanabul Essential fits like a glove (well, a comfy, breathable glove!). The cut sits perfectly on my hips, eliminating annoying bunching and riding up during rolls. The reinforced crotch adds another layer of comfort and durability, making those intense guard battles a breeze. Final Verdict: Honestly, I'm still surprised by how well the Sanabul Essential performs for half the price of some of the big names. It's durable, comfortable, and looks great – all the essentials for a fantastic gi. If you're a budget-conscious grappler or simply looking for a solid all-around gi, I highly recommend giving this one a try. You might just be as pleasantly surprised as I was.

Great gi, but sleeves and pants legs might ne slightly too long depends on how you like them.
Update: 3/22/2016 After many wash and drying in high heat in a dryer, the gi top and pants finally stabilized and stop stretching during hard rolling sessions. I highly recommend this gi. Just give some time and include this gi with your weekly rotation. In about 3 months, it will be perfect for you. Update: 1/12/2016 I have contacted the seller about the sizing issue and they told me that the A1 will definitely not fit. The seller suggested to wash the gi in hot water and dry the gi in extra hot setting. I have done that about more than 10 times now. The sleeves still stretch to my knuckles when I roll. When I reported this back to seller wanting to try A1, the seller gave me an alternative option to get a 15% off from the Professional Competition BJJ Gi. The seller told me that the material the Essentials gi is made out of causes gi to stretch where as the professional competition bjj gi is thicker and won't cause that issue. On top of it, the seller told me that I can have Essential MMA BJJ Shorts for 15% off. When I replied to the seller on how I may redeem the discount, I never heard from them. It has been exactly a week since the last e-mail I received from them. Since then, I sent the seller 3 additional e-mails to remind them. It was kind of let down. The customer service started out really great and I never got any resolution then, keep washing it in hot water and dry in dryer. Let's focus the topic on the gi again. The gi itself is a great starter gi. It feels goo on you, it fits great on you except the length of your sleeves. Fresh out of the box for me, the sleeves were down 1/2 inch down from my wrist bone. After shrinking it, sleeves are now at my wrist bone, but with rolling it stretches to my knuckles. If you are a serious competitor, I don't recommend this gi. You will get out griped every time. On the flip side of it, during practice, you really get to practice and defending grips since your sleeves stretch so much and you don't want any of that. I am still giving 4 stars as a starter gi for it's quality, but the sizing seriously needs some work. I am highly disappointed about the customer service. When it was time for the seller to follow through with their promise, they didn't come through it. I am 5'10", 190lbs, male. I looked at the size chart and it indicated that my size is A2. The gi fits perfectly around my body as far as the girth measurements. The length for my arms and legs were about a half an inch further down from my wrists and my ankles before washing. I decided to wash the gi and put it in the dry in attempt to shrink it. I was able to shrink both my gi top arm lengths and pants legs about a half an inch which was perfect. But when I went to the academy for open mat, the gi pants length came back to its original length and the gi top arms length actually became about another a half inch longer from its original length from grips and push and pull of gi from rollong, which made be vulnerable for easily being grabbed by my gi sleeves for butterfly guard for sweeps. I love everything else about this gi such as, how soft it feels, contours around my body perfectly, so light, and so durable. I just wish that I had purchased A1 instead. I don't know why the sleeves stretch so much while rolling. Maybe because the cotton is so soft.... That's why I am giving it a 4 stars review. The sizing needs more work. For me, A1 would have been a better choice.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED GI WITH INCREDIBLE QUALITY AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE
So I normally don't write reviews, but I was so impressed with this Gi that I felt compelled to write one for everyone out there. I am a single stripe white belt who has been training for six months (at the time of this review), BUT, I hit the mat 4-6 days a week. With the very little experience I have I probably don't have that much credibility. Be that as it may, I don't think I need a ton of experience to recognize a great product when I see one. I now own 3 of these same Sanabul Essentials V.2 Ultra Light gis. After buying several other "budget" gis this is my absolute go to. My other gis are Fuji standard, Gameness Air, Jiu Jitsu Athletica and Your Jiu Jitsu Gear. The Sanabul gis are hands down my favorite. This gi has incredible quality, both in the top and the pants. The material is durable and thick, yet lightweight, with thick and wide collars/lapels. The pants have an awesomely thick drawstring (not that thin, cheap one on most gis) with six wide eyelet loops, 3 on each side, to loop the drawstrings through. I love this because I have ripped off the other eyelets on my other gis just simply tieing my gi. No problem with this gi. The front of the pants have an extra piece of material sewn in, from above the knee to below, for extra insulation as your constantly encountering friction on the mat and your opponents. The crotch section is also sewn with a separate piece of material that not only gives it a great look but also that stretch function so that you don't rip your pants at the crotch!!! Of all the gis in my collection the Sanabuls are my favorite AND they are allot of quality for the money. My only disappointment is when I first found and purchased this Gi it was $60 here on Amazon. I think because of popularity Sanabul has raised the price to $90. They are still worth the money though. These gis aren't a Shoyoroll, but they are worth a look. Last, I'm 5"10, 195 lbs. I highly recommend going with A2 if you are similar in size. My first Sanabul gi was an A3 and although it fit, it was too long in the sleeves and in the pant legs and overall a little loose, allowing for my opponents to constantly lock me easily in Spider Guard, Worm Guard, Gift Wraps and sweeps that involve grabbing a pant leg.

Great starter gi!
First off: I'm 5'11" and 186 lbs (slightly out of shape/heavier around the gut and chest). I got the A2 after seeing most reviews recommending to go a size down. The pants were right around my ankle when I first purchased and the sleeves were a bit long. After using and washing the gi for a few months, the pants have shrunk more than the sleeves have. Fast forward to now, the pants fit about 1" above my ankle and I still have to roll up my sleeves about half an inch when rolling (which can be quite annoying to training partners). However, the pants and jacket both have a slightly more tapered fit than my gym's gi, and the material is good medium-weight with a sturdy yet slightly flexible lapel. The price and convenience of this gi make this definitely worth purchasing, especially for those who are just joining. It's worth noting that not everyone who joins will always stick around due to scheduling and other life commitments, so you're better off getting a solid starter gi rather than blowing as much as your gym membership fees are. To summarize, if you are new to jiu jitsu and need a gi without setting yourself too far back, this is a great gi to purchase! Order one size smaller as they run a bit big. I only knocked off a star because the pants shrunk yet the jacket didn't. Regardless, I still highly recommend.

Could not be any happier!!!
My wife likes to joke that when i decide i want to buy something i research the hell out it and look at different brands before i make my final purchase decision. When i decided to get back into Jiu JitsuI knew i was going to need a new Gi. After reading god knows how many reviews on various brands I arrived on the Sanabul Essentials v.2 Ultra Light Preshrunk BJJ Jiu Jitsu Gi page here on Amazon. The first thing that caught my attention was the reasonable price. I wasn't looking forward to paying upwards of $150 for a new Gi so i was elated to see the price Sanabul was offering their Gi's for. For the price i took a chance and ordered a Grey size A2. I am 5'6.5" and weight about 197 so the size chart was really helpful. As a bonus they were even offering a free belt as long you aded it to your cart on the same purchase order as the Gi. So for around $55 i purchased a new Gi and belt. When it arrived i had my doubts at first. I am strong believer in the term "you get what you pay for" and was worried about the potential quality of the Gi. After washing the Gi before i used it and letting it hang dry I tried it on prior to showing up to class. Any worries i had were immediately dashed and ceased to be. The material was sturdy while maintaining a flexibleness that would be comforting during class. The pants have a softer feel than the top which i like as during BJJ class my collar and lapel constantly get pulled and grabbed. I have had the Gi since the end of October 2018 and have zero complaints or issues with it. When i needed a white Gi for a Gracie Jiu Jitsu seminar I attended i did not even consider another company and ordered a White Gi size A1 (i was curious how much different the sizes would be). I actually like the length of the A1 sleeves more as opposed to the A2 sleeves, they fit my short arms better. Overall I have been so happy with the quality and prices of my Sanabul Gi's i eventually ordered other products from them (rash guards, gloves and shin guards). Each time I purchase a product of theirs I am more and more pleased with it when i receive it and put them to use/wear. 10/10 would recommend to anyone -Joey

Best Gi to start your BJJ journey. Sturdy but thin, and very comfortable.
If you are new to the BJJ world you have found the Gi you been searching for in terms of price, quality, and style. (As of 9/11/2017) The only other Gi you might want to consider at this point is probably the Elite Sports Gi which is also in this price range. Which I'm going to go over the pros for both later in this review. Now this is my 2nd and 3rd Gi. My professor was quite shocked when I informed him just how affordable these Gis are. He approved them and feels they are quality Gis. He also approved the Elite Sports Gi as well. With that being said I lean slightly towards the Sanabul brand just because it's cheaper. However, Elite sports brand has its advantage as well. Pros of Elite Sports - The Elite sports definitely has better stitching, which probably means it's going to last you longer. - Thicker, more sturdier material, which probably means again it's going to last you longer. - It has more branding from Elite Sport to make it look slightly cooler? This is also a two edge sword because if you like the clean look than the Sanabul is going to be your preference. Pros of Sanabul which is the Gi you are looking at right now - Amazon prime + $4 cheaper if you get the white. That's like $14 saving. - Thinner, and has a breathable crotch area. <-- I could be wrong here but the material at this area does feel more breathable. I live in California so this Gi feels much better during the summer than the Elite Sports one. - Light but studry. So far I been using them for two weeks, training 6 times a week. So far so good! (I'm a white belt so I'm extremely aggressive vs higher belts since that's my only advantage. So I get my a$$ flipped around, twisted, splatted, you name it. I can safely say they are holding up well in extreme conditions. LOL) - Clean look, perfect for your school's patches. :) So in short if you are comparing the two Gis. I'd take Sanabul over the Elite Sports. However, if you are looking for a thicker, sturdier Gi Elite Sports might be a good choice as well. Once again Sanabul is a good quality Gi with enough thickness. However, Elite Sports is just a thicker Gi. Good luck on your BJJ journey, and congrats on finding the perfect Gi to start that journey. Oh yeah btw I'm 5'11, slightly broad shoulder, 210lbs. A3 is perfect after "Hot Wash". It's quite a bit bigger if I don't wash it. A2 size would definitely run small for me. Best wishes.

Great Gi Great Price! Be aware of your sizing and read all the reviews in search of your height/weight for recommendations.
This is my first gi for BJJ as I am fresh into the art. I took a free class and decided it was for me. However, the one thing I figured out quickly after using a loaner gi is I didn't want something oversized and I didn't want it to feel like the comforter that I use on my bed in the winter. So I looked up light weight gi's and found this one. After reading several reviews it seemed that the quality was certainly getting positive feedback and most of the people posting complained about shrinking but were not reviewing V2 but instead V1 of this gi. That said, I purchased V2 of this gi and am very satisfied. The company seems to have listened to all those V1 reviews and fixed some previous issues. The only thing I was nervous about was choosing the correct size on the first order. I saw a lot of reviews with varying body sizes but none that were close to mine. Out of 400 reviews I made it to a page (a few hundred reviews in) with somebody that had a similar body type (height and weight) as my own body. They had recommended the A2 size. I'm 6'2" 200lbs with a more slender build (a bit out of shape in the mid section). According to the chart, the A3 had seemed like it was the right choice. So I continued reading reviews and came across a person that was 6'3" and 220lbs. This person claimed that they were a bit thicker and had purchased the A3 and felt like they were swimming in it. That was my tipping point for ordering the A2 so I took the chance. Luckily I had ordered early enough to get same day delivery. When I got home from work I tried the gi on immediately and it fit like a glove. The length in the sleeves could stand to shorten just a hair and same for length in legs. The gi feels snug yet flexible and I'm sure after a few washes it will become even more so flexible. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase, it feels light weight and fits just fine. The quality seems to be top notch even though this is only my first gi ever. I'll probably at some point be purchasing another so I'm not constantly worried about washing. I have to dive in and make sure this is going to be long term but hell for $90 this seems like a steal. Lastly, I also ordered the Sanabul white belt because they offered it at 50% off with the purchase of a gi. The belt came at the same time and to be honest it seems hard to screw a belt up... well, they didn't screw it up. The only issue with the belt was it starts off a bit stiff. I washed it twice as I was doing laundry that night and it softened right up. Tonight will be my first BJJ class with my own gear and I'm super excited. Should I experience any issues I'll be leaving feedback for the company as I know they listen to our concerns.

The Incredible Shrinking Gi Pants, but Great Customer Service!
UPDATE: Sanabul contacted me shortly after I left this review and let me know they were having problems with the grey gis. They offered to replace it with another color, so I had them send me a white with blue accents. This gi has been through the wash twice and has not shrunk. It looks great and is very tough and comfortable. Very happy with Sanabul customer service and will do business with them in the future. 5 stars for excellent customer service. :) Original post: I was really worried when I ordered the A2 since I’m 5’ 10” & 170 lbs that it was going to be too large. However, I’d rather have my gi a bit baggy than too short and too tight. When I got it I was relieved to find that the pants and jacket were just a bit long, but since it is (supposedly) “pre-shrunk” that it may only shrink a tiny bit more. The gi looked good and seems to be of good quality and construction. I followed the Sanabul washing/drying instructions to the letter, cold wash, light dry, take out damp and hang dry. The jacket fit perfectly, but the pants are another story. They literally shrunk 6” and are much too tight. They may fit an 8 year old boy, but they no longer fit me. The other thing that I don’t care for is that the gi jacket and pants hang dry very wrinkled. I got to wear the gi once. I’ll give them 2 stars because the jacket is still useable. Very unhappy. Will not be buying another Sanabul gi.
