Nonfiction Reading Comprehension: Social Studies, Grd 6: Social Studies, Grd 6

I use this with my 6th grade grandson. He does not like reading. So I am working on his reading comprehension skills. This is how I use this book. He marks vocabulary with a yellow hi-lighter as he reads the material. It also tells what they mean in the paragraphs. Then, he answers the questions, and writes sentences. It is easy for him to write sentences after he reads and understands words. He tries to use all the words in the sentences. It does not expect that but it is good for him. I think this book is just right amount for him to focus.

Excellent!! Wish they make these books all the way to 12 grade. Very informational, my daughter has learned a lot of facts thanks to these series.

It would be better if was updated.

I felt that the selections were not written at a reading level that was challenging enough for sixth graders. I was looking for something that would provide more of a challenge.

These were easy but I really liked them as they gave a short exercise for my almost 7th grader to practice his reading strategies during Summer, but without feeling burdened. Paragraph blurbs, restating question, eliminating an proving answers in the text- all can be done in 5-10 minutes with the few questions answered. He also said the passages were interested. Make more please!

I homeschool my daughters. My 5th grader loved their 5th grade version, so we are moving on the the 6th grade version. She's very excited! I really enjoyed this book because not only has her reading comprehension markedly improved, but these short reads have proven to be very interesting to her and she is learning content as well. I would recommend this to any student because it really helps.

Pretty good way to combine reading comprehension exercises with “light” social studies learnings.
