Poetry for Kids: Robert Frost Review: As a poet & artist, I find this book lovely - I'm and artist and poet (published a book of poetry and also went to university for art) so I'm very interested in the illustrations in my children's books. This book did not disappoint. The poetry - it's Robert Frost, of course it's beautiful. For those who complained that the poems were hard to understand - this is poetry, for some styles of poetry you need a very solid grasp of the subtleties of language and a bent toward poetry to understand it. I'm not being snooty here, I know very smart people who simply don't have that type of mind, and they don't dig that type of writing. Also, the poems were written long ago, when language was different, so bear that in mind. If you're looking for simple poems that rhyme like "Roses are red, violets are blue, you are sweet and I love you" (and nothing wrong with it if that's the style you're looking for, I enjoy that, too) just, be aware that - this ain't that. You might want to google a few Robert Frost poems if you're unfamiliar with the author before you buy, to see if his poems are to your liking or, more importantly, if they will suit your child's personality. I love poetry, my mother and grandmother loved poetry and it seems my daughters got the poetry bug too, so for them, this book works and we're using it in our homeschool to explore poetry and literature. I explain some meanings, as this type of poetry bends and twists words and thoughts into images to convey feelings, (and it does so in a beautiful, simple way, not overly intellectual) so I try to translate some of that for them as we discuss the poems. The artwork is absolutely wonderful. I say this as someone who painted and sculpted at university, and I've been teaching children's art classes for the past few years. When I saw the first few illustrations, I loved them, then realized they'd illustrated every poem with that beautiful artwork. What a fine job they did! The illustrations in this book perfectly capture the feelings of the poems and are a joy to behold. My daughters, ages 4 (almost 5) and 9 were as charmed as I was. This book is sure to become a cherished favorite in our house. Absolutely beautiful - highly recommend, they outdid themselves with this one. SO glad I bought it. Review: This book of Robert Frost poems is beautiful and a must for people of all ages!! - This is a beautifully illustrated book of Robert Frost's poems. Frost is America's greatest poet and this book is a must for people of all ages.

Beautiful but NOT for kids
I was excited to receive this beautiful book of Frost poems “for kids” because I had already been reading some of my favorite Frost poems to my 7yr old granddaughter and looked forward to well selected and beautifully illustrated Frost poetry. But I will definitely NOT give her this book after all. Many of the poems are far too adult in themes of melancholy, regret, and loss. The poem that left me aghast at its inclusion in a book “for kids” is “Out, Out-“ about a boy sawing off his hand, then seeing himself bleed to death, begging for help, after which the adults “since they were not the ones dead, turned to their affairs.” As a high school teacher, I have read this poem with students far past “kid “ stage who were devastated by this poem. What were the editors thinking? I will keep the book for myself because, except for its designation as a book for kids, the illustrations are exemplary, adding a deeper dimension to the poems.

This book is a wonderful collection of poems by Robert Frost
This book is a wonderful collection of poems by Robert Frost. The illustrations beautifully set the mood and the theme for each poem. The experience of reading this book to children and sharing it with family is so greatly enhanced by the artwork. It brings the poems to life. This book is a keepsake in my home and a great holiday gift.

Four stars!
I set myself an objective at the start of 2017 to read more poetry and classics and whilst this book is primarily aimed at children I really enjoyed it - the illustrations used really bring the poems to life and they were really my favourite part of the book, I really adored a few of them poems, a few I wasn't a fan of and some that were just ok so overall I have given the book four stars - definitely worth a read and a great introduction to the works of Robert Frost.

A Colorful Poetry Book—Just Not a Favorite
I got this poetry book for my 10-year-old, hoping to spark her interest in poetry and give her something to enjoy besides screen time. While the poems didn’t fully capture her interest, the book itself is an easy read for her age. The quality is great, and the colorful design makes it more engaging. It’s a nice book—just not quite the hit I was hoping for!

The most beautiful pictures! Much scope for the imagination!
A must have for Robert Frost fans!!! Such a beautiful layout - the artwork & print is eye-catching! I will read these to my kids, realizing that although the pictures will get their attention, the poetry will need to be explained.

An amazing collection of poetry for "kids of all ages!"
As a former teacher, a would-be poet, a now-and-then artist, and someone who enjoys buying books for her grandkids, I loved this book enough to order more copies. Jay Parini's introduction describes Frost's "sound of sense" as the "music of language in conversation." And the amazing illustrations of Michael Paraskevas convey the magic of color and form that Robert Frost's words have long painted in the our minds. This book should be on the shelves of all school libraries!

I've loved Robert Frost's poems since we studied some of them in school back in the late 1960's. This book adds beautiful illustrations & a very short commentary on each poem. At a time when it seems that everything for children is being "dumbed down" this book really stands out. It has my absolute highest recommendation.

I love the poetry in it, and the illustrations are lovely.

The paperback copy has misprints and there are words stuck together with no spaces. It is a total mess and such low quality that you could simply print out the poems and have a better copy. Do not waste your money. And when I ordered the hardcopy it never shipped!

I enjoy reading these, but for kids? Most of them are either too long or confusing for a 9y old.
