Perfect for Dachshund city dog
Bought this a few months back, waited to see how my dog and i really liked it. So far have taken him into lots more stores and outing, we love it. I have a 10 year old Dachshund, 14-15 lbs. Being a wiener dog, hes quite long and fits very snug. I debated buying it because he exceeded the common length, 21 or so inch long. However since we were using this for outings, i didn't find it necessary for him to have too much room. I prefer he only have sitting/laying room only. Also, i only keep him in it while inside the stores. As soon as we walk out the door hes back on his leash walking. So he is a tad snug, its not spacious enough for him to turn frequently. So he goes in head first, turns and lays down. To take him out he pops out the other end. I quickly learned he doesnt turn to come out, but he can if he really wanted to. The double door system is a plus, he is too long an skinny for the half door, he uses that as an exit. It took about a month of just letting him get used to it. I would leave it out open, gave him some treats in it, trow his ball in there for him to fetch etc... Finally when i did use it he was shacking a bit, he quickly learned that we only went to fun places so on the 3rd trip, he was ok and willing to walk in on his own. Recently however i did need to take him to the ER vet, this came in so handy. I placed him in there and was out the door in a matter of seconds. I did appreciate that he is so used to it, it kept him calm at a very alarming time. Carrying it backpack style allows me to be hands free, but for the emergency room trip i healed the top handle so i could keep an eye on him. Both are very comfortable. However at 15 lbs the backpack style is not ideal for long trips. Again i used it to take him in and out of store, shops, restaurants etc... afterwards hes off walking. As hes walking, i use it as a conventional backpack allowing me to carry any items in it, thats another plus! Shoulder straps are thick, dont dig in my shoulders. Im 5'4'' and it fits well, not too low not to high. My husband is not a huge fan of the backpack but he is able to carry him with no issue, he just doesn't lol Final thoughts: would not suggest for long walks if 15 lbs or more. Otherwise Im happy with my purchase,

My 17 inch 19lb dog Fits!!!
I searched everywhere for the perfect bag. Read many, many reviews, pulled out the measuring tape and weighed out all the pros and cons to finally get to this bag. Though funny, I was reluctantly set to buy another bag then at the last minute this bag popped up on the screen and immediately knew this was the one I wanted/needed and I was right. I live in NYC and my mixed Schnauzer needed a place to quickly jump into when we were in high traffic areas, in doors, and in the subway. I also take him in this bag to the gym where he is able to comfortably lay and stick his head out of one end, laying his head on the fold (so cute).I noticed other bags we not discrete, they came in loud colors and were frankly bigger and heaver than they needed to be. This bag looks like a gym bag! No one could tell I had a dog in there especially when I wear it like a backpack. Also a plus is the removable hard floor allows for cleaning and ability to fold the bag up (storage) all while keeping it's shape. Though is flexible enough to get more slack (room) for added laying down comfort. This bag is also made very well, its quality! As far as my dog liking the bag, at first it was hard to get him in as he was confused since he was use to his other bigger bag which loaded from the top but now he is totally comfortable in this one and although snug he feels totally comfortable and secure in it. Though honestly every dog is different so no telling how they will react but if your dog enjoys snuggling with you under the blankets then this bag should feel no differently. I also put the lambs wool padding from my old Sherpa medium size bag in it for extra comfort and it works great lining the corners too! I also took my over the shoulder strap from my Sherpa bag and attached it to this bag even though the backpack straps is interchangeable, I just didn't want to fuss with changing them back and forth, works great. Also the openings on both sizes are big enough that my dog can enter and exit on both ends, so perfect! My recommendation to the owners:-I think if you could do another size bigger (only by 2 inches more in all direction that would be amazing) but keep the great shape!!-You should add upgrades, sold separately! Like an extra padded backpack strap and/with a chest strap to keep straps from moving. This is my only issue with the bag, just wish the backpack straps were more padded and had a chest strap to secure it. Though please don't get me wrong the straps on it are great, I just have a heavy dog which requires more support. Though fortunately I am not wearing this bag on my back for long periods of time, so its fine for what I use it for, i'm just being picky, wishful :-)In closing, I think this bag is perfect!!! and the price is even better. I hate to admit but I'd pay more for this bag because its worth it.

Since purchasing this, I'll be donating my other carriers to a pet rescue
I'm glad I purchased this carrier. I viewed many others before making my decision. This is well made and sturdy. There's a leash hook on the inside for those who want the added security of not having their pet jump out when the side that allows your pet to stick it's head out is unzipped. I used it to take my 10lb cat to the vet and it was so much easier than using a shoulder strap carrier. I think you can convert the straps to shoulder but I didn't try as that is not my preference.Even though your pet will always be able to see through the mesh on either side of the carrier, there is also a flap that you can roll up or leave down for your pet to view the outside world from the back of the carrier. One thing to note is that as long as your pet is not perched on one side of the carrier, it's comfortable. Once my cat got used to the carrier and settled in length-wise, it was less of a strain on my back. At the vet, I got compliments on this handy carrier. I only give it four stars because there are no pockets to put papers, treats, meds, etc. Otherwise, I'm pleased with it.
