Really Cool Collected Edition!
This book even has 3D goggles that you can punch out in the back (which I didn't remove, of course!) that you can use to read an issue that is in 3D!Overall, this is one of the most visually interesting comics that I've read. The story is also fairly interesting, although it's attempts at "critiquing" Victorian era sexism can really come across poorly, and I don't think some of the themes age particularly well (which is common for some of the comics of this era)But I think overall it's still extremely interesting and worth picking up if you can find the Jubilee edition at a reasonable price.

A Fine Reproduction
I'm in my sixth decade and I still love a good comic book read. I've owned several copies of these two series. The trouble is, I lend them out to people as an example of how good a "funny book" can be, and I don't get them back. Or at least in the same condition. This excellent hardcover presents the first two stories in the saga of the League. With all the accompanying text, and alternate covers. It's great fun to choose a page at random and try to figure out all the references. Who is that other human on Mars, and who is Dr. Moreau talking about when he speaks about his nephew? Why does one of Nemo's crew members have a black arrow on his back? I could go on and on.Trouble is, and this not a fault of the book, none of the above questions are answered anywhere in these pages. You gotta do the research. Also, I have talked to people who saw the movie, and even some who liked it. The story here bears little resemblance to the film. Personally, I see that as a good thing.

Great story, great writer, great art, what more can you ask for?
I remember buying these when they came out, and how original this idea was. I lost all of my comics, including these in Hurricane Katrina, so now I buy the omnibus and HC editions, to at least just try and have the stories back. I remember thinking when I heard they were making this a film, that there is NO way in hell they could do this justice, which turned out to be MORE than true. What a travesty that was. If you are a fan of the film, you NEED to read these and see what true art is, with both story telling and artwork. I knew Sean Connery would never play an opiate addicted, washed up hero, who is a weakling (at first). Anyways, if you are into classic literature, and adventure stories, buy this now, you will not be disappointed.

Leagues beyond ordinary.
This is a nice handsome volume presenting volumes 1 and 2 of Alan Moore's classic and highly enjoyable "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." The paper is oversized and of high quality and the edition has a nice slipcase making for very attractive presentation. On the whole, I would say it's not quite on par with Marvel's lush and gorgeous omnibuses but it is quite close, which is intended as a compliment. As for story, volumes 1 and 2 of LoEG are really the only two volumes worth owning. Black Dossier was frankly an embarrassment and an exceedingly weak piece of work compared to the stories contained in the previous volumes. When I initially read the mini-series as they were released, my impression was that volume 2 was an enjoyable tale in its own right which nonetheless paled in comparison to the tight scripting of the first volume. On re-reading I have confirmed that impression. LoEG volume 1 is one of Moore's best action adventure works. It is a tightly plotted, incredibly well scripted adventure/mystery with highly entertaining characters in a thoroughly engaging plot. Volume 2 certainly builds on volume 1 but misses the awe and mystery that was so well captured in the previous, not to mention failing to recreate the incredible atmosphere of late 19th century London evoked by the talented pencils of Moore's accomplice here, Mr. Kevin O'Neil. In volume 1 in particular, O'Neil's pencils evoke a 19th Century London that is decadent and dense, dangerous and teeming with life and with interesting and intriguing characters. His work on both volumes is a major element of Moore's success with this series.LoEG represents some of the most unabashedly entertaining works of a writer who's powers are certainly waning of late. Very unfortunately, they also represent the best that LoEG is likely to get. Although producing new stories every other year or so, these tales pale in comparison to the craft, excitement, intrigue and fun of the stories contained in this omnibus. If you don't already own any issues, I highly recommend this. For those who only own the tpb collections, I would also recommend it.

Absolutely incredible
What can I say? If you're a fan of The League, this is the most beautiful & luxurious edition ever. Expensive, but worth it. High-quality and it will also look great on your shelf.

Man mag vom Streit zwischen DC und Alan Moore halten was man will.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Jubilee Edition: Amazon. Lacrada. Intacta.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Jubilee Edition: Amazon. Lacrada. Intacta.

One of the best comic in the World

REBUY!
I already owned the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but in the french edition, which I thought was pretty neat!THen, one day, I considered it was time for my non french speaking boyfriend to read that wonder (as he loves Alan Moore too).THis omnibus version made the collector in me quite jealous ;).The layout it really nicely made, the bonuses at the end of the book I had never seen were just so interresting if you are a fan of the books.About the book itself ,forget about the poorly made movie, and dwell into the adventures of Alan Quatermain, Jeckyl and Hyde, thee invisible man, Captain Nemo( !), all led by a flamboyant Wilhemina Murray! You will find a multitude of beloved character and stories from the 19th century, and Kevin O'neill's intricate drawings will awe you at every page turn. I love this series of book, as it is full of tiny details (from a Peter the Rabitt eaten by foxes, in a corner of a page), and rich with other litterature references! When I find a new one I try to run to the book which originated it!Alan Moore's writing is witted, and as the last page is read, you will just ask for more. It was hard to make this review without making any spoilers.
