I bought this book because I knew next to nothing about Madeira wines. What I found was a wonderfully comprehensive and scholarly treatise that not only provided the information necessary to make wise purchasing decisions, but also regaled me with fascinating insights into the economic and social history and geography of the island of Madeira.

A very complete review of all topics regarding the Madeira wines. Interesting and easy-reading. Informative, without inducing the reader into any previously intended conclusions. Historic details very thoroughly presented. Tasting notes of some very rare Madeiras are precise, and may guide the prospective buyer.

I bought this for a friend and he just told me how much he liked it. He's discriminating. It's a well written, very well researched, history of Madeira. Anyone who loves Madeira will welcome this book. The author is to be commended.

One of the classic books about the wines of this fabled island.

Plenty of information in this book but I think the addition of some photographs would have made it so much better.

Wine from Madeira is a treat. Even more joy when you have this book to read about them.
