Does exactly what it says it'll do!
Bought this because my new vehicle has a factory installed tow hitch and I wanted something useful to cover it, rather than just something decorative. The BumpStep is just what I was looking for. I have corgis and travel with them frequently - bending down all the way to the ground to pick them up is part of the deal, but with the BumpStep, it's so much easier! They put their front paws on the BumpStep and I don't have to bend down quite as far to pick them up, saving my back. I've used the BumpStep myself and it holds my weight with no trouble - it's not a big solid step that I'd want to stand on all day long, but for quick checks of the roof, it does the job nicely and feels pretty stable. I also really appreciate the "breathing room" it offers in tight parking situations - every little bit helps (although, thankfully, I haven't had the opportunity to put that feature to the test, yet).

Good, except for Incorrect "Product Dimensions" under "Product Information / Technical Details"
God, except for Incorrect "Product Dimensions" under "Product Information / Technical Details". The Amazon listing says: "Product Dimensions 19 x 13 x 4 inches", but none of these dimensions match its actual size (except the 4th dimension -- more on that below). It's actual dimensions are only 11.75" wide by 10" long by 2.5" high, which is too small for my needs. It has a fourth dimension, too (like the Twilight Zone!), the size from front to back of the surface of the step that you stand on, which is 4", but the height of the step is only 2.5", so if you were planning to put a bumper sticker on this hitch step, as they say in New Jersey, "Fuggedaboutit!" You won't be able to fit even a small 3" by 9" bumper sticker on this hitch step that's only 2.5" high. Other than the misleading dimensions in the listing, I like this hitch step! There are three advantages to it being plastic: it will never rust, it's lighter than a hitch step made out of steel or aluminum, and it won't rattle like one made out of metal would. Even though it's made out of plastic, It seems sturdy, and it supported a 215 pound man with no problem (it's rated for 300 pounds). However, I don't know about the long-term, whether frequent use and sunshine will weaken the plastic. It has five different holes for mounting it in your receiver, so it should fit any hitch receiver. The manufacturer recommends using the hole that puts it closest to your bumper, as that way it will be the strongest when used as a step. If you're not planning to stand on it, then I guess you could choose a different hole. I like this BumpStep, but because this size was too small for my needs, I am returning it and instead buying the BumpStep XL made by the same company (WeatherTech). The XL version is supposed to be 24" wide and 4" tall rather than 12" wide and 2.5" tall, although it costs about double the price, too.

A must-have for a SUV or Truck
Excellent product, sturdy, lightweight, well built like all other WeatherTech products. It is super useful to get into the trunk of a SUV and I've also used it to stand on when washing the top of the vehicle. Best of all is the bump protector - it's actual use - that helped me on a couple of occasions by avoiding the rear bumper backing into a wall. Prior to this, I had one instance of gently bumping a wall and it cracked the chrome trim on my bumper. After putting this on, not had any issues. I've used this for about 8 months now, including a winter with lot of snow and salt on the roads. The finish is intact and it still looks good. Highly recommend it.

Must have
I leave this in my hitch at all times. It is super durable and easy to use. Great protection when backing into your garage and not having to worry about putting a hole in your sheetrock with a hitch. This just compresses down. Looks great, fits truck great. Also is a nice little step. Only downside that someone people may have is that the sticker comes off pretty quick.

GREAT REAR END PROTECTION, BUT.....
Unfortunately, I had to return this Bump Step. The reason being is that my small car can only accommodate a Class 1 trailer hitch with a 1 1/4 inch receiver. So, a 2 inch receiver ADAPTER was necessary to be added since the Bump Step will only accommodate a 2 inch receiver. By the time it was all done, the Bump Step stuck out TOO FAR from the back of the car, at least 2 feet (safety hazard). Not only that, but it sat too low in height. So, the Bump Step is only practical with a Class 3 or 4 trailer hitch with a 2 inch receiver; in which case, I would highly recommend the Bump Step. It is very hard plastic, and is plenty strong to protect the back end of the car from being damaged by people bumping into your car, or you hitting something while backing up (such a wall in a parking space). So, I had to settle for a 2 inch ball on the draw bar that came with the trailer hitch--if anybody bumps my back end, now, at least, they will have to eat that 2 inch ball first. The last time I got bumped in to, my car spent almost a week in the body shop. So, the whole idea for me is protection, not towing. The price that Amazon gave me at the time of purchase was much lower than I could find anywhere else, and free shipping.

Lightweight, functional
Lightweight (it's non-metal, plastic), will review later on "sturdiness" or performance after impact. Since it is not metal, it does not "rattle" on the vehicle like a steel one would, won't rust. Appears to be good value, sharp looking.
