Human Diastrophism (Love & Rockets)
S**I
All of love and rockets is terrific. The Brothers Hernandez communicate an unblinking but loving
and amused attitude toward human beings that is not unlike other great writers, say Jane Austen or Melville. I also love the drawings. There are jokes in the images, and feelings that I miss the first time through, so after I read the graphic novel I go back a few times to look at the images. And perspective, and ... You get the picture.

Maturely Written, Effectively Sentimental, Original, Artistically Moving
Genius! This is one of the best graphic novels ever written, and I think that Beto's art really peaks here. When I was younger and read this material in Love and Rockets, in individual parts, I really lost the thread. When it is collected like this, I can see the overall arch much better. In addition, I ended up identifying more with the Maggie Hopey stories at that time. But now as an adult, I find Beto's work more appealing, complex, and interesting. Highly recommended!

Magic realism
Getting lost in Palomar is just like enter the labyrinth of Macondo. Absolutely astonishing honest work from Gilbert. A masterpiece.

Intense Storytelling
Gilbert Hernandez certainly has a peculiar and interesting way of portraying the small fictional town of Palomar in Mexico. From the beginning you can see where he wants to go with his storytelling with the integration of many characters all at once, almost bombarding you with each unique member of town. After a few issues, the key players are identified, and each aforementioned charcter is gradually reintroduced with a subtlety that presents them as familiar and intriguing throughout. I found myself constantly shocked and amazed, and ready for more.

great redo
These books were fun to read in their old graphic novel form, but the new versions have a bunch of issues together, and have much better covers. If you have read love and rockets, then the story is the same.....cool books cool people.

Required reading
A world as dense, rich and flawed as the real world. Human Diastrophism is a book that I can read again and again. Spans generations and must be considered one of Gilbert Hernandez' foundation works.
