One Shot: (Jack Reacher 9)
S**R
'One Shot' is one of the true definitions of a thriller.
I at first bought this book seeing its liking percentage in Google, which was quite high: 91% or so. But to say the truth, after reading the book I felt 91 percent is 9 percent less than the real rating the book deserved. At the beginning only I should commend Lee Child upon the brilliant plot which he spun and produced this masterpiece. The idea which Lee Child got during writing the book was truly exceptional. One will really be surprised after reading the plot and seeing the size of the book (500 pages), thinking the two are incompatible. It is only after we start reading the book, and only after Lee Child has ensnared us with suspense and heroic drama and confusion, we understand that 500 pages probably was less for the real storyline of the novel. And what a story! It is like watching a peacock unfurl its wings. The story unfolded majestically with the all the seven colours of the rainbow. Beginning, with James Barr's mysterious and seemingly foolish demand for Reacher. Reaching its peak when Reacher says to Chenko why Chenko should kill him. BECAUSE IF HE DOESN'T, REACHER IS GOING TO FIND HIM AND MAKE HIM SORRY. A line like this can only be said by a hero, and only a hero like Reacher.Describing the story in short is no fun. When one is reading a thriller one has to read it himself from first to last page. Also, I think, I am not capable enough to describe One Shot, unlike Lee Child is. And let it be Lee Child who reads the story to you than me. Only one thing I would say, that is, One cannot stop reading this book. This book is simply unputdownable. There are twists after twists, brilliant deductions and masterful suspense and shocking revelations throughout the story. Even in the last page. This book literally is interesting from FIRST TO LAST PAGE.And then there is the amazing protagonist: Jack Reacher. One has to either admire and emulate him to the fullest or has to hate and contemn him to the fullest, he is a character like that. And for me the latter is false. After reading the book, or rather just halfway through it, if one is not fan of Jack Reacher then he didn't understand the book and unlikely to understand any other book, let alone thrillers.I agree, that Jack Reacher is fantasy (whimsical even), literally and figuratively, but that doesn't stop him from being a character loved and with qualities emulated. His analytical skills, and outstanding presence of mind are what impresses people (let alone his qualities as a masculine man) and makes him an admired and want-to-become-like character. Throughout the book he makes mind-blowing deductions and takes risky decisions, not unlike the famous Sherlock Holmes. The Zec is another of the impressive characters. Although, on the bad side of life and a wantonly wicked criminal, his steely resolve and sharp brain are something to appreciate. And one should never forget that society moulded him to what he is. One after undergoing the inhuman treatment of the Gulag in Russia, not unlike the Nazis’ atrocities upon Jews, can either be very noble or very evil. Unfortunately, the Zec chose the latter. The story was written in great detail and depth, with strong characters and strong heroes and strong villains. There are components to learn from everything mentioned in the book, which includes psychology, physiology, legal stuff, the betrayals of people “devoted” to law and off course Jack Reacher and his skills. And the conclusion was exceptionally good (as it contains another twist).[One last thing, Tom Cruise in face and acting looks perfect Reacher. However, Tom's physique and height makes him fall short, considerably, as Jack Reacher.]The delivery, and the condition of the book, was poor and unsatisfactory. As I judged the book on its content, I gave it a good rating, but I would request Amazon to take more care to the products they sell us.

My first Reacher novel and won't be the last
I usually do not read the original novel if I had already watched its film/TV adaptation. I broke my rule to read this Jack Reacher novel and it did not disappoint. It has over the top action and yet believable. Will pick up other books in the series. Recommended.

A Thrilling Ride
I like thrillers which are fast paced, keep the reader engrossed and don’t waste much time in detailing of events or places which are inconsequential to the storyline. An ex-Army sniper shoots five people and is easily caught by the local police after having dropped all the telltale clues during his whole shooting spree. He is innocent and asks for Jack Reacher and ex-Army Major. Reacher lands up shortly and with the help of the accused’s attorney, a local journalist and an ex-Marine he unearths a thicker conspiracy behind the whole façade. Two stories run parallely, the killers and the stalked. Reacher is the proverbial tough guy and the baddies are read bad assed bunch having a mole in the authorities. The plot thickens slowly and the climax is the typical kick in the butt type with table being turned eventually in favor of our friend Reacher and his pals. The novel is a thrilling ride. I haven’t seen the movie version fully but from whatever I saw I could conclude that Tom Cruise nailed Jack Reacher to a perfect T.Go for it (the book and the movie as well)

I happened to read an excerpt of this and fell in love with the way this book goes
I started the Jack Reacher series with Killing Floor [the first book] and I was so excited about the series. I happened to read an excerpt of this and fell in love with the way this book goes. Lee Child is brilliant with the narration!

The book came first!
For the record, I thought the movie was good. Not great, but well worth watching. Tom Cruise is NOT Jack Reacher, but he is a hell of an actor and the movie entertains. I was going to skip this book, figuring it was a novelization of the movie. I bought it because the reverse was true - the book came first. And it does not disappoint. Even though I thought I knew what was going to happen, it was obvious that things were changed for the movie version. This book is much better than the movie - more twists and more characters. Highly recommended. Excuse me while I go back and re-read the last three chapters...

I've read most Reacher books, but if this had been the first, it would have been the only one.
I’ve read, and enjoyed, most of the Jack Reacher books, but this book was a huge disappointment.Right from the start the storyline was very predictable and, as it progressed, it became more and more implausible, with lots of sub-plots that seemed to have been “borrowed” from previous books.Jack Reacher has always been a violent character, but the Reacher in this book is almost psychopathic, maiming and killing almost indiscriminately. If this had been the first Reacher book I’d read, it would have been the only one.

One Shot (Jack Reacher book 9, filmed as Jack Reacher) as always no spoilers.
A sniper fires six shots from a multi storied car park killing five seemingly random people. Within hours the police have the case wrapped up with a suspect in custody. The evidence against James Barr makes it impossible for the police to believe that anyone committed the horrendous crime. And yet during questioning, James Barr will say only five words.GET JACK REACHER FOR ME.Upon hearing this Jack Reacher knows he cannot ignore it, and so he heads for James Barr's location, but not to help him, to provide evidence AGAINST him, for as Reacher knows, James Barr has done this before. But when Reacher gets to his destination he realises that although the evidence against James Barr is overwhelming, there are still something's that don't add up.And so, with the help of Barr's attorney, a former police officer turned private investigator and Barr's sister Reacher investigates. If like me you've seen the film before reading the book, then don't expect many things to be the same, but don't let that deter you from reading the book, the storyline is the same. To me it's a great film and a great book, worth 5🌟.

Love Jack Reacher books
I love all the Lee Child Jack Reacher books and this one was just as good although I did find it built-up steadily through the book and most of the action took place in the last couple of paragraphs. It was still gripping and exciting and I can’t wait to read another one! I wish they would make more films but not use Tom Cruise because he really doesn’t have the right height or physique!

Brilliant
Great read, plot twists & turns as expected, never sure why he seems to be in a place trouble starts but then I wouldn't stay in a hotel with Jessica Fletcher. I just love the story telling, the gripping tales & a hero who looks out for the little people. I am reading them in order as that's my own OCD kicking in but you can read them in any order.
