Loved the story!
Hi! I bought "Promise Me" thinking it would be my traditional "buy a Christmasy book that makes me cry and I get pissed because it made me cry and yet I can't stop reading it", well I was right - it did and I did.Although I have to admit the first half of the book, I was just okay with and unfortunately I felt the way Beth made you feel about her upcoming family Christmas dinner at the very beginning to be a tad overrated but it did what I'm sure the author intended - hooked you into reading the story to find out why she felt the way she did. I know it worked with me cause I wanted to find out what the heck she was so afraid of. I did love that the book was in first-person with Beth telling the story - I absolutely love books like that cause I really get more into the story that way.Beth with her 1st husband, I could have smacked the bejeezes out of him, but the fact that Beth helped him, was exactly what I expected her to do for him. Her meeting Matthew is a dream for a lot of woman - you're at your lowest point in every way, with low self-esteem and here comes Mr.-SoapOpera-Star-Looks and he wants a relationship with you. What woman wouldn't want a gorgrous man pursuing you?I really started enjoying the book when Beth wants to stop seeing Matthew (no I'm not really giving anything away by saying that). From that point on I absolutely, thoroughly enjoyed the book and yes I did cry at various points, especially at the end. I also wish, as I'm sure a lot of people, someone had given me a manilla envelope like the one Beth is given toward the end. The truth about Matthew? Personally, I never would have guessed who he really was, I actually thought he was someone else, but I was totally wrong in that scenario. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because I didn't feel the same about the ENTIRE story. Would I recommend this book to someone else? Yes I would but I would be honest about my feelings about the beginning part.

Wanna winna Kindle - Ann Tracy Mueller aka Lincoln Buff 2
What d'ya do when one of your favorite authors offers a free Kindle to the reader with the best Amazon review of his latest book ... but you don't have the book - and the book store is a one-hour round trip away?Try this: Go to Amazon. Find an application called Kindle for PC. Load the program, buy the book and start reading 15 minutes later.Ya gotta love technology. I even forgot I wasn't reading a real hold-it-in-my-hands book! Wow, what a book!I set out to do here what I do with many of my reviews - tell you the author is gifted at his craft, weaves words into visual and sensual and emotional images to make the reader feel as if she's right there living the narrator's life, and creates characters as real as your next door neighbor or as surreal as an angel dropped in your midst. Sure, it's all true. Anyone who has ever read Evans knows all this, right? Hmm, what can I say to grab your attention and Evans's?In the opening pages of _Promise Me_, the author hooks us with two things - jewelry from old lovers and a secret. Readers with any of these in their pasts - jewelry, old lovers, or secrets - are instantly drawn in and pulled back to their own stories. All readers are propelled forward - a word, a sentence, a paragraph, a page, a chapter at a time. Along the way, Evans leads his readers down a path strewn with love, sadness, hope, disappointment, trust, betrayal, adventure, and more. As with his other books, the story keeps drawing the reader in, offering a roller coaster ride with peaks and valleys, twists and turns, and a 'Whew! We made it! What a ride!" kind of ending.Don't be misled into thinking, "Oh, another Christmas book. La-de-da. How many more can he write?" _Promise Me_ is fresh and new and spellbinding. I locked myself in my room until I finished it - and, believe me, it was worth it!Just think, Richard, if I win that Kindle, I can read all your books this way - maybe even my own someday! Promise Me

Beutifully written
I'm a fan of Richard Paul Evans. His stories seem simple but they are profound. Promise Me made me cry a few times. I guess it was just the end (no spoilers) that made me cringe. Anyways, I'm always looking forward to more of Richard P. Evans' stories!
