Provides a different perspective on the sacred hoop
I bought this book on the basis of the recommendations and a referral. It is very well written and clearly explains the sacred hoop medicine wheel in relation to healing and wellness of spirit, emotion, and body. In fact, it does so better than any other book I've read on the subject. It also provides ways to facilitate healing circles for those who are interested in pursuing that. I look forward to reading more Garrett books.

Recommendation
I highly recommend this book as the best self-help book I have ever read, an exquisite textbook of Cherokee culture and spirituality and an amazing connection to the Circle of Life. Whether I'm looking for a link to my Cherokee heritage or a story and exercise to share with a client in crisis, I can always find either. This book has had a positive and profound impact on my life. My sincere graditude to the authors for sharing this gift.

I have to tell you this is an amazing book.
I am 1/8 Cherokee and i have read a lot of reviews regarding this book. I have to tell you this is an amazing book....and while it will include other native american cultures and beliefs It and the author Dr. J.T. Garrett are dedicated Cherokee and teach it and live it! Some of the reviews I read said the book has nothing to do with the Cherokee Indians. Don't you believe it. Read it for yourself and learn so many wonderful things about the beliefs and culture of the Cherokee Indians.

I am Cherokee according to Cherokee law...
I see that a few reviews are 'sour grapes.' And quite a few are very positive. I have had this book for a long time but have never read it all yet. However this evening I decided to start reading and I was choked with emotion on the first page... because the words rang clear and spoke to my Cherokee heart. One doesn't have to live on The Rez to have a Cherokee heart... I am also half Caucasian at least on the outside, but my doctor says I have an SNP in my DNA and that explains ALOT of THINGS for Him.So the one thing I want to make perfectly clear is: I don't fit into this World of Hipocracy and wish my Maternal Grandma would have allowed ME when I was little to come to the Rez with Her instead of having to stay at our Family Summer Cottage in the Woods of North Carolina when I was just a little kid. Because ever since I can remember I have ALWAYS thought like an "Indian" and pondered at the Ways of the White Men...

Solid Detailed Information
I liked this book because it had plenty of specific detail, and these made me know that the writer had plenty of personal knowledge about the subject he was writing about. By the end of the book, I knew that I had a full picture of the subject. I felt as though I had seen it.

Changed how I see things.
This book is a must have for anyone who sees themselves as Cherokee or wants to walk the Red Road. The moment I began to read it I discovered a new found reverence for everything around me, even for insects. It changed how I see things, and I'm very grateful to J.T. for having written this book.

Great book
I bought this book to get ideas for ceremonies which I was running for young people on coming of age ceremonies and quests but it turned out to be so much more. This book is full of insightful knowledge into personal development and what values the indigenous people lived by which we can bring into our lives today.
