What If There Were No Bees?: A Book About the Grassland Ecosystem (Food Chain Reactions) Review: Great for the classroom! - Great book for learning about food chains and ecosystems. My students really enjoyed this read. I chose this book over the other ones because I felt like my students could relate to it the best. They enjoyed it and the illustrations/visuals are great! Review: Vital - I'm a middle school librarian. Last year, I needed to weed the science section of my library as it was severely outdated. I'm adding this book immediately. It's well written with solid science facts but also shows a possible progression of life without bees. It's good, short enough for some of my kids who struggle with science and engaging.

This book was purchased as a companion to a unit on the importance of bees in our ecosystem. The illustrations are beautiful and I especially like that certain flowers/fruits/animals are blacked out to show their potential disappearance in the ecosystem should bees go extinct. Facts are accurate. Great book to introduce food chains and interdependence in ecosystems.

Great book!
This is a great book explaining a little bit about how important bees are. I use it in my classroom during our life science unit.

Great informative read, even for early elementary students!
I am using this with first grader in my library to start our project-based learning about how to help save there bees. Great illustrations and facts, and the author writes in a clearly understandable way for little ones.

Great for Earning Girl Scout Badge!
I loved this book. We read it to our Brownie Girl Scout Troop as information for the girls to earn their Bug Badge with. We loved learning the definition of a keystone species and my daughter has constantly reminded her brothers that honeybees are vital to the ecosystem ever since. Highly recommended!

Fun and Accurate!
I bought two copies, one for my son and one for my niece. They are only 2 and 3, respectively, but love it nonetheless. Their parents are botanists/environmental chemists so they are used to this type of thing anyway. =) I paired the books with bumblebee nests made in a block of wood so the kids can read about the importance of bees and check to see if bees have made nests in the wood in the garden. Highly recommended!

It is probably my fault but I did not realise that this is a children's book. Perhaps others would realise this from the author or the series. However, as a children's book, it is informative and nicely illustrated.

Great for teaching grade 4 about keystone species and the impact humans have on animals. A must have for the class.

Pages are large enough for good accurate Illustrations. The illustrations bring a 3D aspect to all the drawings including flowers petals, leaves, animal's fur and bee wings and fuzzy bodies. My students are completely enthralled as am I with the fabulous illustrations. However, I believe the "its critical" blue inserts take away from the "wow" factor. They could simply be included in the printed information section of on each page. I like the large print so I can read it upside down during a lesson. I do not understand the food chain arrows or colouring correspondences.
