planned failure
This works exactly like the original spout that came with my Blitz can even though it was meant for another brand. The trick is to use the Blitz can nut that holds the spout on. The difference in threads is important. Since this seems to be an identical product I expect it to fail within a year. The locking ring will fail to turn and the spout will freeze and fail to allow gas to flow. I have several cans and they all failed in the same manner within a month of each other. For several years I had to use the cans without a spout. I may as well have used a bucket. No other aftermarket spouts are available due to the unique thread. Now I can drill out one of the old spouts and see if I can circumvent the idiot regulators in California and even stupider manufacturers who sell shoddy products in knee jerk reactions to a vocal minority.

Works good. 90% of the bad reviews are from people who think you just twist the green lock and pour. Wrong. This works great if you know how to use it correctly.

Unbelievable - a new record low
This is the first product I purchased that truly deserves zero stars. Got a Scepter gas can at Target last year, safety valve broke after the second use. Well, I ignored the bad reviews and figured I should give Scepter another chance, maybe I should have been more careful handing the lock mechanism? So I spent roughly 2/3 of what the entire gas can cost on a matching replacement spout. I read the instructions thoroughly, installed the spout and managed to gently open the lock mechanism without damaging it. Started to refuel. Guess what happened next - gas was pouring through the lock mechanism, over my hands, all over the generator, onto the driveway. Smelled like a gas station for the next couple hours. Thanks for nothing, Scepter!

Poor Design Spout
The flow/no flow mechanism is very delicate and breaks easily. Beyond that, you have to keep your gas can well balanced or you're likely to spill a lot more gas than you might with a more conventional spout. Balancing can be difficult when your can hold 5+ gallons.

Great replacement
I have this old gasoline container that the original spout broke. The container is in good condition and did not want to throw it away, but found the replacement spout on a google search, and amazon had the best price out there. The spout works better the original and I don't have to remove it and cap it every time I am done with it as it automatically seals when done.I recommend this item for anyone who needs to replace a spout on an old gasoline container from Scepter.

... about the variations of this device that is a super PITA to make work
this probably doesn't rate this low but I am pissed about the variations of this device that is a super PITA to make work. The EPA has made the fueling situation worse with its stupid requirements without thinking of the implementation strategies.

Exact Replacement
The origonal one failed to unlock so this was the replacement that I wanted and when I took the first one apart to see what failed I found the spring had failed. This is the best spout that I have ever found that worked like it should. I will be replacing my diesel fuel can spouts with this type.
