Great quality kit. I had lot of fun to build it but I wouldn't say it was easy

This was my first non-Revell car kit in a long time after returning to plastic models in my retirement. I’d heard good things about Tamiya quality and was anxious to give one a try. The good: the detail and quality of the parts is excellent, great detail, zero chaff (not sure that’s the right term…the excess plastic on the pieces), zero seams, easy to detach from tree, grooves between components (eg, interior console and floor) that facilitates clean lines when painting and excellent fit. The bad: black molded plastic parts that need detail painting, engine is molded into frame (black, of course) so you only assemble the top of the engine…3 pieces, metal chassis (nice and solid - have your mini Phillips screwdriver handy) but there is zero chassis detail and assembly because of it, too costly for a model kit that lacks parts for assemble of engine, drive train, detailed interior…. I may give Tamiya another try but if this is their MO, I’m done with Tamiya.

It is a very nice model with a good amount of detail. The pieces fit together well and the instructions are clear. The included metal bottom plate adds to the quality of the kit. If there is one complaint, it would be that a large part of the engine is molded into one piece. This was not only a pain to paint, but also doesn't look as nice when compared to other models. Some of the other models in this price range also come with photo etched parts, which would help dress up short cuts like the engine molding.

Great kit

The Tamiya 2490 1/24 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren box/model arrived in great condition. I was very pleased with the product, and the nice note that was left in the box as well. Please understand that this model will require some modeling tools, paint, and easy-moderate building skills to assemble. Toy Shop Japan communicated clearly about their delivery, and I was happy with the result!

It has been many years since I purchased a plastic model car and if I had to do it again I would think twice because of the price,(very expensive for 6 oz of plastic.) That being said, I am amazed at the quality of the model. All the parts fit perfectly, I was disappointed on the painting of the parts, some would not take paint very well and had to be re-coated several times and one can see the brush marks, not cool. Also the instructions left a lot to be desired but if one takes his time this too can be figured out. About the paint, I purchased the paint that was recommended by the manufacturer and this doubled the price of the model. Over all, the model did not justify the price and I would not recommend this to anyone.

Les pièces s'assemblent très mal de mauvaise qualité, je déconseille cette marque de maquette. Je suis un fit-elle de Tamiya de très bonne qualité.

Ich habe schon viele Modelle von Tamiya gebaut und war bis jetzt immer sehr zufrieden. Aber hier bei diesen Modell bin ich absolut enttäuscht. Denn es fängt schon bei den beiden Seitentüren an. Die beiden Türen gehen nicht richtig zu, weil die Innenverkleidung unter anderen gegen das Amaturenbrett drückt. Ich musste es dann selber ausbessern. Das schlimmste ist aber die ganze Fronschürze, die überhaupt nicht passgenau ist. Die Fronschürze drückt leider gegen die Frontscheinwerfer. Da kann ich leider nichts mehr ausbessern. Auch kann ich die Frontscheinwerfer nicht nach hinten versetzen, denn dann passt das nicht mehr mit der Motorhaube. Wie gesagt, sowas habe ich bis jetzt von Tamiya noch nie gehabt und hoffe das war eine Ausnahme bei diesen Modell. Habe das fast fertige Modell weggeworfen und die ganze Arbeit war umsonst.

I thought everything clipped on, that's not the case. You have to buy glue which is sold separately, and very expensive as well. Also, all the parts are gray. You have to buy the paints which is ridiculous and extremely expensive. And, need to be professionally painted with proper gear. Way too much work and money put into it. The car just doesn't look good without paint.

20年ほど前のダイキャストミニカーが流行った頃に、タミヤがそれを模倣したと思われる実に中途半端な製品。 プラモデルなのにシャーシのカバーだけがスチール製であり、ずしりと重く、扱いにはかなり注意が必要。床に落とすと大変なことに。重さが気になる人はスチールカバーはオミットしてもいいかもしれない。 タミヤのピンタイプホイールがこの重量にまず耐えられるわけがなく、ホイールは2代目インプレッサ以来の久々のポリキャップホイールで、リアホイールは珍しく昔のようなシャフト式。 しかし、フロント側のホイールハブ内にはいかにも経年劣化で折れるピンがあるという意味不明な設計…。 タミヤさん、リアをシャフト式にするならステア機構なんか要らんからフロントもシャフト式にしてよ…長いフロントのほうがエンジンで重いんだから。 もちろんピンは折り取ってハブの中心部に穴をあけて、金属リベットを通して重さに耐えながらもホイールが回るようにました(タイヤの転がりとシャーシにもこだわるモデラーなら当たり前)。 エンジンや内装は文句なしですが、外側から取り付ける前後のガラスが、非常にきつきつではめにくい。はめると剛性がアップしてガチガチになる。ミニカーじゃないんだからここまでの剛性は要らない。 ドア開閉ギミックのための細すぎる金属棒は、いらぬトラブルの原因なのでオミットしました。
