A good novel
My favorite author, enjoy the sarcasm of John Sutter, it's humorous!!! Very different from what we normally read.

Enjoyable Sequel
Nelson DeMille is one of my favourite authors but for some reason I had not got around to reading The Gate House, which was published relatively recently in 2009. This is a sequel to Gold Coast, which was originally published in 1990 and picks up 10 years on from that book. Now with some authors and some books, the fact that one had not read the preceding book would not be a significant issue. However, here there are numerous references back to what happened in The Gold Coast, and the reader really will miss a lot of the background without reading that first. Trust me, it's worth the effort as these are both very good books. The story is narrated in the first person by John Sutter. He has just returned to the Gold Coast area after some ten years absence and estrangement from his wife, Susan Sutter. I will not give much more away in case you have not read The Gold Coast and take my recommendation to do so as it will spoil that story. Suffice to say that John and Susan's life is not at all straight forward and they come under significant threat. Additionally, Susan's parents, William and Charlotte, the In Laws from hell, who have always been very much a thorn in John's side continue to cause him some serious issues. This is, in many ways, a very amusing book as John is quite a wit and his thoughts are often very different to what he actually, sometimes with better judgement than at others, says. As with all of this authors' books, it is relatively long at the best part of 700 pages - presumably this is why, on average, he has only written a book every three years. However, I found it a very interesting and enjoyable read and probably his best for quite a while. I would certainly recommend it.

brilliantly written book. a perfect sequel
Perfectly written in the language of a prissy, privileged north-easterner. I had to look some words up, haha. Initially, I hoped Sutter would not take his wife back. I am saying to him no, no don’t do it. In the end Susan grows on you and you understand their love story. The ending is brilliant, you knew someone had to die. Then there’s the letter! I did not see it coming! I was guessing through out the book what it was all about. Simply, brilliant. You don’t have to read the first book but it is a must. You don’t have to get the audio book but that is also a must.
