Not bad, but....
I've always been into Neo-Geo since it came out. Back then, it was easily regarded as the porsche of consoles and also arcade games since no other system was doing what it could at the time but also due to the AES' high cost per platform and cartridges. Its prestige item status still carries forth till this very day. As I have been able to emulate a large chunk of the Neo-Geo catalogue on my computer, I have decided to acquire all relevant Neo-Geo remake controllers in order to better replicate the home AES experience.Having bought the Neo-GeoX arcade stick (which I highly recommend) I decided to give the Neo-Geo control pad a go. First, the controller feels great in the hands. I prefer the feel over Retrobit's Sega Genesis 6 button controller. Second, I am well aware of the lack of micro-switches which has marred the experience of this controller greatly for those who remember the original. I never played the original so I can't gripe too much about the lack of micro-switches even though I have the arcade stick which has them. I can understand why not having them is a problem particularly if you are into 1:1 replication of reissued items so the critique is not without warrant. However I don't find it to be an issue myself, and quite frankly I think the directional pad, overall is a strong point. It feels much better than the cartesianal direction pads found on other controllers and actually makes doing some moves easier compared to the arcade stick with its micro-switches. This type of directional pad, true to SNK Neo-Geo form, appears to be unique for its time and quite innovative. It would have allowed for unmatched fluidity of movement and execution of certain moves. So I don't find the lack of micro-switches much of a problem. What I don't like: the button layout. If you need to perform button combo presses in order to execute moves on fighting games like Samurai Showdown V Special, well good luck to ya. The non-sequential, oddly angled layout will have you close to rage quitting as your Rage Bursts and Zetsumei Ougi go unexecuted in SSVS time and time again no matter how many affirmative and or deliberate presses you do over and over. The NeoGeoX arcade stick has the clear advantage here and as I mentioned in my review of it, was able to execute these moves in SSVS quite easily and beat the game. This is not the case with this control pad. I should note, that this has nothing to do with the rearranging of the ABCD buttons which some gripe about. That specifically is not an issue for me since I run my games through Retroarch and can configure the controller any way I want. Rather, its due to the way the buttons have always been positioned on this device going back to the original. What I also don't like is that I had to purchase the C to USB adapter to run this on my Mac. I have no intention of hooking this up to a mini-arcade machine, but since this controller was not thought of as one to be used primarily on computers, I had to go ahead and fork over extra money. Not cool. Retroarch and other non-Neo-Geo-mini users may want to skip over this controller in lieu of.Overall, I'd rank this over Retro-bit's Sega Genesis controller since it has an overall good feel in the hands and a far better directional pad. But definitely behind the Neo-GeoX arcade stick due the poor button layout. Its not really worth picking up unless you really want to own another SNK branded-remake controller. Your go to controller for playing Neo-Geo games on your computer using Retroarch should be the Neo-GeoX aracde stick. Get this control pad only if you really love everything Neo-Geo, and want to relive some more of that 90s SNK magic, and are ok with it not being a 1:1 recreation.

An amazing game pad!
I ordered this gamepad to use as a second player controller for my Neo Geo mini, but it's so marvelous that I'm tempted to order another to use with an adapter for general retro console use. I was really on the fence about getting it - I don't know when I'll see my coworkers again, much less if anybody will want to stand close enough to play two player on this tiny screen. (There is an HDMI port, but it's hard for me to use.) I didn't know what to expect of the weird thumbstick - whether I would like it at all - or what the build quality would be. After all, it's an inexpensive pad compared to a lot of other "modern retro" pads.As soon as I pulled it out of the box, I had a good feeling. The controller is incredibly solid and weighty. I like the Retro-bit Genesis and Saturn controllers, but they feel weightless and flexible compared to my memories of the originals. This one, by contrast, feels like it weighs as much as an Xbox 360 controller - a good thing in my book. It's solid as a rock; it feels like I could stomp on it on cement without so much as scratching it. (Note: I am not recommending you do this.) The buttons are clicky and responsive.I'm terrible at fighting games, but this pad makes me feel almost competent. Pulling off sweeps, 4-6 moves, or 623 / 421 moves feels incredibly natural. I've always preferred Sega/NEC disc-based d-pads to Nintendo-style pure cross d-pads, but this is a new evolution. My only complaint is that the Neo Geo is a four-button controller, so this won't work with many SNES or Genesis games. Which isn't a fair complaint. But if somebody were to clone this with shoulder buttons, I'll be first in line to buy it.Until then, I'll keep using this on any game that will allow it. It's a marvelous pad and an amazing value. Don't miss it.

Not Bad, Has A Couple Issues.
Not to bad of a controller, seems to work well no lag no issues with button presses. I was actully surprised at how big it was, I was expecting something more 'mini' but this is pretty much a full size controller, that's not really an issue but it's not very comfortable to hold (for me anyway) and the joystick is slippery plastic without any grip and my thumb keeps slipping around, they should have used a rubber grip. Not a bad controller it works fine and ill probably get used to the shape/joystick but hoping (doubtful) a 3rd party company will come out with a better product and hopefully wireless!

It's okay, but...
It'd be really great if the NeoGeo classic mini supported 3rd party controllers, however, you're forced to use these ones. It's not that they're bad, but it wouldn't be my first choice. They've basically mirror'd the design of an old NeoGeo CD controller, however, those controllers used microswitches and was therefore more like an arcade stick in portable form. These controllers may look the same, but they're not using microswitches, they use a standard analog stick, which isn't a great way to play these kinds of games. I'd much rather they use microswitches, and if that was really was not an option, then just use a D-pad instead of trying to mirror the look of another controller at the expense of usability.
