Nice guys finish FIRST...
I was first introduced to this book by an associate who said it described me perfectly. I didn't realize what a compliment this really was until I ordered it from Amazon and read it.If you are not a nice person, this book can really revolutionize your outlook. It lays out the case to be nice to others in a logical manner and provides a lot of thought provoking reasons to embrace this concept. If you are already a nice person, you will get even more out of this book. Lots of great advice on sincerity and how to still get what you want out of any relationship. You simply can't go wrong. On top of this, the book is both easy and fun to read. It's a GREAT conversation starter and wonderful source of quotes for classes and speaches.

It's kindness but it's also empathy, networking, and other well-known good ideas
This is a sprightly, and brief, book that can be read practically at one sitting. Thaler and Kaplan know how to tell a good anecdote. The one that sticks with me is about Thaler's college music-composition professor telling her she had no talent for writing atonal, avant-garde music and should stick to "jingles": the result was a wildly successful career in advertising.A lot of the advice here is of the "kindergarten" variety but is still invaluable. Tell the truth. Give other people the credit that is due them. Put yourself in the other person's place.Actually, only a small portion of the advice here would strictly fall in the category of being "nice" just for the sake of being nice and doing the right thing just because it's right. Some examples: It is better not to fire people via e-mail. One should respect all human beings, whether they are security guards, CEOs, or panhandlers. That's called being "nice," or what Yiddish speakers used to say was simply being a "mensch."Other pieces of advice here are more clearly strategic. Certainly it pays to cultivate friends and contacts: we hear once again the story about Bill Clinton shaking everyone's hand on the ship on the way to his Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford, telling them he hoped to be president of the United States some day. As many other business and pop-psychology writers have noted, listening is generally far preferable to speaking at one-on-one business meetings because the other person responds well to a meeting at which he is talking. Stay positive in a political or other campaign if you can; no one really likes hearing negative pitches all the time. With that caveat -- that some of the advice is good but standard business-book thinking -- I can give this book four stars. It's really a nice book.

Outlines actual life experiences
I love this book! I have always been a firm believer that kindness wins out. In todays hard core, 'go-for-the-juggler' business world, this angle is a breath of fresh air, and one that works in the long run. The book also offers multiple real life examples of the "Kind Principle" in action and the positive effects that result. A simple, quick read, offering concrete examples and ideas on things to focus and/or work on.

Take time out of your busy schedule and read this book!
A must read for everyone!Change your attitude and make a decision to be nice to others. People who serve you coffee in the morning or at the drive thru window. It works. I eat a Pizza Rev once a week and every time I eat there, I say hi to the staff and thank them for their service. One evening I overheard a conversation between the workers and lo and behold, it was in the field that I work. I threw in my two cents and a week later, she was my client. This has happened many times in my business career and I've learned that being courteous to others and showing thanks is something we should do.I highly recommend reading this book!

Title is the book
I wasn't terribly impressed with the amount of lessons, discussion, and examples in this book. I think the length of it could actually even be cut down further if a lot of the examples were limited. I'd say the examples that are given certainly apply the lesion being taught or discussed but felt repetitive in the way they played out. I felt like the whole book could be summed up just as the title would lead you do believe. Don't be a dick and good things will potentially work out in the end, or not, depending on the universes dice roll for you that day.

Let us be nice!
I liked the message of this book very much. This has also been my message on my lectures for many years. Surely it sounds naive sometimes, but if we do not believe in people and if we do not want good for them, we are in bad trouble. We need nice workplaces and nice homes in order to thrive. The writers make many excellent points which I hope will be shared. What is especially nice, they themselves want to share what they have learned. I have some minor points I did not like so much. Was it necessary to tell the name of their dentist? And some similar things. I may not agree with that therapist who said that never explain or defend. Think about situation where you are late in work or did something which is not liked. We expect explanations. Those who don't are regarded as odd. Anyway, nice book!

Excellent book! I think is a MUST for anyone who wants to succeed in anything life has to offer, or just to feel better about current life circumstances.
