The Treehouse Book

might just blow your mind
This is the third book from Peter Nelson of Treehouse Workshop. His previous two delved in depth into treehouse construction. This work is more a survey of the many wonderful treehouses to be found throughout the world. It is crammed with quality color photographs and, unlike a previously reviewed work, has a unifying narrative throughout.Peter starts you off with a very useful section entitled "Choice of Tree". There he briefly touches upon suitability of various tree species to treehouse construction and provides a mini sketch of each tree species with a treehouse. Immediately after comes some very accurate arboriculture advice from Jonathan Fairoaks. It's nice to find a treehouse book that gets this part right for a change. For me, the real value of this book is in the tour it takes you on of many notable treehouse. I bring this book to meetings with clients so they can see the many incredible things possible. And for those who've never considered it possible that a treehouse could be any more than a small, roughly built box, this book will blow their minds. What this book lacks is building advice. It's not a "how-to" book. There really is no great "how-to" book out there. Even so, highly recommended.

Some amazing houses
No, this is not a how-to book. There are only a few opening pages of general information relating to picking the right tree; where to build; matters of stability, and dealing with zoning laws, etc. Mostly this is a picture book - an idea book. Lots of stunning full color, full page photographs of both interior and exterior tree dwellings. The final part of the book has short sections on play houses, forts and tiny tree houses for children - and also tree houses open to the public.Anyone who has dreams of owning a house in the trees will enjoy this book. Imagine living in the woods, not in a cottage or cabin on the ground, but up in the branches of a tree that sways gently when the North Wind blows. Or spending your day face-to-beak with woodpeckers and wrens.A very nice assortment of treehouse photographs, along with brief descriptions for each.

Decent Book
Not a DIY book! For me it was a very nice Idea book, mix of kids and adult tree houses/homes, has some brief text , photos are wonderful, slightly oversized, good quality paper. My 6yr old loves it ,already making plans.

Facinating and beautiful tree houses, fuel for many evenings of dreaming.
An excellent picture book of a variety of beautiful and even inspiring tree houses. Provides great fodder for dreaming, but only a little general guidance as to actual construction. We bought it for our 4 year old, and he loves it, but it also converted my wife to the tree house cause; She no longer complains when, while house hunting, I closely examine trees for tree house potential. You'd need a more technical book before embarking on actual construction, but I've seen none better for inspiring many evenings of daydreaming.

My husband was very happy to receive this for his birthday! We watch Pete Nelson's Treehouse program every week, and this book is very interesting as an adjunct to the program. The book arrived in PERFECT condition and is a great success! Beautiful book filled with wonderful photos!

loved the series and now we can take our time ...
loved the series and now we can take our time and look at the pics and stories - my husband likes to draw old barns and buildings from photographs - he will have a hay day with this one, because he has been drawing trees for decades 1 two in one!
