Weapons of the Viking Warrior (Weapon, 66)

In this Osprey Weapon Series book, author Gareth Williams has provided a thoughtful survey of the weapons used by Viking warriors. He has drawn on the existing histories, the most current archeology, and on some interesting details about the use of weapons developed by modern re-enactors. The result is thorough and insightful, expanding the reader's understanding of a culture often obscured by ancient legends and modern television and movie presentations.The narrative covers the development, use and impact of the primary Viking weapons. The discussion includes the likely influence on such weapons of Viking contacts with a variety of warrior cultures around Europe. The analysis shows a strong and welcome emphasis on the practical value of the different weapon types, backed by lots of photographs and illustrations. Well recommended as a superbly readable introduction to the topic.

Pretty informative overall however there were not as many pictures of described weapons as I anticipated. It also seemed to repeat itself often. Overall a good informative read for anyone looking to learn about the subject.

Excellent resource

Up to the normally Osprey standard. Of which I’ve always considered a starting place for further research. If your into reenactment, archeology, wsrgaming ect you may find nothing new here but the artwork is worth it. If you know nothing on the subject then this is a good place to start
