Pursuit of Honor Review: Great Title, Great Book - When you find a author you like, if you are like me, you read everything that they write and can't wait until the next book comes out, will that is coming to an end. The author died last week and I for one will miss his great stories. As I was reading this book my thoughts were on how many books were left in the Mitch Rapp series and then I read that Vince Flynn had died and that there were to be no more books to read after his last book is released this fall. Sad as it was to hear that Vince Flynn was gone, a man with a wife and children, a young man, a man of faith, and a great story teller, sadder still that there would be no more books coming from this author. That made reading this book just a bit more of a priority. It was a great read, held you on every page. Nash is no Mitch, or should he be, but his character adds to Mitch because what he does not do is overshadow the main character Mitch Rapp. Flynn does a good job in character development and gives you great insight into each character so that you "feel" that you "know" that character. I gave it five stars because, again and again, any book that you can not wait to get back to and is hard to stop reading is a five star book. (In my Book). Review: Mitch Rapp does it again! - A nice read, and eventually, after a lot of slam/bang, everyone got exactly what he deserved. One of Mitch’s best efforts, not to mention the late Vince Flynn.

not the best in the series but still a great read
What can I say? I love the character that Vince Flynn has created in Mitch Rapp. "Pursuit of Honor" is essentially "Extreme Measures, Part II". The story begins 6 days after the terrorist attacks on Washington, D.C. that were the culmination of "Extreme Measures". All of Flynn's Rapp novels contain references to previous books to one degree or another. In the case of "Pursuit", though, the references to "Extreme" are frequent and essential to the story line. I don't think anyone who hasn't read "Extreme Measures" is going to be able to fully understand or fully enjoy "Pursuit of Honor", so I highly recommend reading "Extreme Measures" before taking on this book. Other reviewers of this book (and I'm talking about the ones who have actually read it, not the 1 star liberal reviewers who make a practice of trashing Flynn's books in spite of the fact they obviously haven't read them) have remarked that the story lines have become a bit predictable and I don't totally disagree with that criticism, hence the 4 star rating instead of 5. While I don't want to see Flynn retire Mitch Rapp, I think it may be time to either give him a rest or somehow try to freshen the story lines. That said, this is still a really good read. Whining liberals (even the few that actually bother to read the book before trashing it, if there actually are any) will no doubt complain, as they always do, that Flynn's conservative political leanings are too much in evidence. To that, I would counter that most of the Democrat politicians in this book (particularly President Alexander and Senator Lonsford) actually come out as looking very patriotic and acting in the best interests of the nation (unlike most Democrat politicians in real life). The hypocritical Senator Ogden (who Flynn clearly and hysterically ties to the disgusting real-life Barbara Boxer with her "please don't call me maam, I've worked too hard for the title Senator" remark), on the other hand, comes across as an arrogant turd who is far more interested in making America's intelligence services fight our enemies with both hands tied behind their backs than in helping them keep our nation secure. You know, sort of like the real Senator Boxer is. At the end of this book there are several loose ends left dangling - e.g., will Max Johnson be eliminated or join Rapp's team - same with the terrorist Hakim, and will the Russian gangster Peter Sidorov form an uneasy alliance with Rapp and become a recurring character? - that will almost certainly carry over to the next novel in the series, which I, along with all other fans of Vince Flynn, will eagerly await. Vince Flynn is a fantastic author who has created a memorable character in Mitch Rapp. The fact that he makes liberals crazy and causes them to post negative reviews of books they clearly haven't read is simply an added bonus.

Another action-packed Mitch Rapp (12th in the series) spy/assassin novel.
As someone well into their senior years my lifelong voracious reading passions range from the scientific to the esoteric and from the classics to detective and westerns. One of the spy/assassin authors I have been reading a lot lately is Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp spy/assassin series. I just finished reading the 12th book (hard cover 438 pages) in the series (Pursuit of honor) and like all the other books in this series, Mitch Rapp is assigned the difficult task of finding and destroying the enemies of the USA. There are always American hating fanatics who have no moral compass when it comes to how many innocent people, they are willing to kill to achieve their fanatical objective. In this fast-moving adventure, Rapp is seeking three Qaeda terrorists who are responsible for organizing a group of killers who blew up various targets in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, Rapp has to not only battle enemies from afar but also enemies within to keep America safe. I never give away too much information when reviewing any kind of novel, but if you are a fan of the late Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rap series you will love this action novel. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. What a great series!
I'm reading all Flynn's books for the second time. That's how much I like them. Sadly, Flynn had prostate cancer and died several years ago. He wrote a couple of books with someone else. I didn't like where the new guy took the series and I stopped reading them after the 3rd one came out.

Great read, keeps it up all the way to the end. In addition to the action, there is some real human dilemma which adds a somber sense of realism.

Wow! Wasn't this an action packed book full of non-stop adventure, violence, throughout. And the thrills! This book takes place about a week after the preceding novel. Mitch and his pals are hunting down the three escaped terrorists from the Washington attack. Amongst this main plot element, there was the subplot of Mitch trying to figure out who was responsible for the leaking classified information which led to one of Mitch’s operatives being murdered in the previous book. I think the reason why this book felt a little bit more action packed than some of the previous ones is because so much of the setup had already been done. We saw the terrorists plot develop, we saw the attack take place, and now the hunt is on. The slowest parts of the story were probably the chapters from the terrorist perspective where they are trying to run but their leader keeps making stupid mistakes. This was very frustrating, me thinking ‘wtf are you doing???’. I think this book really juxtaposed Nash and Rapp. It showed what Rapp could've been… what he could have been with Maureen, or if Anna hadn’t been murdered. The life that Mitch deserved. I think we also see Rapp come to terms with the fact that he lost everything that he valued in life, therefore, he makes the decision (which wasn’t really his to make) that he would would protect these for Nash by taking away his ability to do fieldwork… I don't think Rapp realised how much jeopardy this could actually put Nash and his family in. I'm interested to see how the relationship between Nash and Rapp progresses moving forward now that Nash is technically Rapp’s boss. Like always I love the inclusion of Scott Coleman, Stan Hurley, and some of the other characters. It also introduced a Russian oligarch of sorts and I wonder how that is going to come into play in the subsequent subsequent novels, especially because it seems that Rapp now owes the Russian some favours. We also see Rapp working with both English and French counterparts and I wonder if they will have something to do with the subsequent novels as well. Overall not a bad book I finished it in two days which is pretty much unheard of for me with these novels that usually take me quite awhile to get through.
