Brilliant! What didn't I buy this years ago??
I ordered the Hosmart 1/2 mile driveway alarm to cover our property - absolutely brilliant! Our house is at the end of a cul de sac with no footpaths around, so NO one needs to be here at night but us. If someone else is here at night, I want to know immediately, but I don't want THEM to know I've clocked them. The sensors cover all angles in or out to our house, car or on foot. I painted one sensor flat black with bumper paint (masking off the sensor window of course!) and mounted it at the far end of the cul de sac where it funnels down so I can pick up anyone well before they reach the house. I've only had these up a week and already clocked a yobbo with his hood up running full speed past us at midnight. He hopped over a nearby wall and hid for a few minutes before he scanned around and calmly walked away, looking at his phone. He had no idea I was aware of his presence. I can tell how fast someone is moving by the time interval between two of the sensors. Anyone faster than the postie is running. I've had zero false alarms thus far. Packaging and set up is very straightforward. The instructions are clearly written and simple. Amazing... TIME-SAVING TIP: Sensitivity and channel settings are on internal micro-switches, so set these first, then do a mock install to test for false alarms/sensitivity/position/channel tone etc before you do all the screws up tight and mount it for good. Otherwise, you will need to undo (per sensor) 4x wall bracket mount screws, 1x swivel screw, 4x small rubber casing plugs, then finally 4x casing screws to open up to adjust. Note: Plug in the small white two-pin connector inside the sensor unit for the 18650 battery before charging. They come unplugged for shipping and warehouse storage, otherwise they would stay on as there is no off switch for the sensors. Once it's plugged in, it's activated. Any sensors set to either Channels 1 or 2 WILL GENTLY BLINK RED at the unit outside when tripped. Sensors set to Channels 3 & 4 STAY DARK when tripped like nothing happened. The receiver inside will alert you to all of them however! That means if you don't want anyone to know they've been clocked, set those sensors to either channel 3 or 4 and the sensor will not give it's location away at night by blinking. If you want to let people know there's a certain level of active security present, then 1 & 2 will be noticeable if someone is looking in the direction of the sensor, but it's a slow flash and not particularly bright. PS you can set all or just certain groups of sensors to the same channel if you want, but the alarm tone will be the same for those on the same channel. No big deal if they are in the same area, you'll know which general area to look. A few observations: - ABS plastic build quality is good, but someone could knock one off these off the wall or disable it with one decent swipe unless protected in some kind of anti-vandal housing. They would still set it off though. - The clips for the plastic rain hoods are a bit fiddly and might come loose in a proper gale but so far, so good up to 50mph gusts and driving rain. A little silicone etc would perhaps fix them better if you are in a really windy area, but I wouldn't glue them on because they may need to come off to adjust settings, etc. - The receiver can run off 4 AA batteries (I just use rechargeables) or off mains via a USB charger. - The lowest alert volume on the receiver is NOT very quiet. It WILL startle you if asleep near the unit. I put two small squares of duct tape over the speak grille and it makes it a lot nicer at night. If you turn the receiver off and back on again, it DOES NOT remember your old volume setting and will default to full volume when it wakes up or is triggered again. Trust me, you will soon learn this. Some people complain about the alarm tones. They're fine with me. You probably won't be hearing them very often unless you've set yours up someplace with a lot of foot traffic and you won't mistake them for anything else. Anyway, these are great motion detectors, they offer real peace of mind if anyone is around your place day or night.

A Really Great Product That Works
I wasn't impressed with the colour as I wanted my alarm to be completely invisible. So I repainted the sensors. Easily done. My alarm is set to notify us when someone is at our front gate 100 yards from the house and also the location where the visiters/intruders are on our property. What we found is that this device can protect with 4 sensors or it can protect 4 areas with multiple sensors which is how we use it. After one month of using this alarm it works perfectly in all weathers. We get very little in the way of false alarms and that can be a bird sitting on the sensor or a wild animal in front of it. But that is only because of where we have placed the sensor. The range we did a test and it was somewhere near that distance in line of sight. But what impressed us a lot more is that our first sensor at the gate has it's signal going through trees and bushes in full leaf. Then through a large timber insulated building with 10" thick walls. Then through a twin 12" thick concrete walled house with multiple 4" thick internal concrete walls to the back bedroom. A total distance of 100 yards plus. So far, very impressed. The colour I altered with a bit of green/brown paint. What you get with this product is not just a driveway alarm, but a great security alarm which can be used to track your intruders. It is ok being notified of a triggered alarm, but by careful placing of the sensors this system can alert you to threats and track their whereabouts on your property. If you use this system with live video or game/trail cameras. Intruders can be tracked and filmed and you alerted while seated in your house. The ability for the sensor signal to penetrate multiple dense solid objects/walls makes this system far superior to other similar products on the market that I have tried. UPDATE NEARLY 4 YEARS LATER: Still going strong. Sometimes in rainy weather people slip by, but 99% of the time all good and no faults. Having multiple sensors detects those who slip by. Battery life is at least 3 months between charges. A great product for once. A real improvement would be to upgrade the system. Have 8 or 10 sensors and different alarm tunes for each. UPDATE NEARLY 5 YEARS LATER: Still working great with the sensors detecting daily multiple times and charging needs doing about every 4 months. One of the best products I have ever purchased from Amazon.

Bit of a faff to set up but works well
I live up a farm track so have set this up at the gateway to let me know when someone arrives. The motion detector is about 25' from the receiver (which I've plugged in but could be run on batteries and is positioned on a windowsill facing the detector) and so far everything seems to be working well and I've had far fewer false alarms than a cheaper model I've previously tried. It was a bit if a faff to set up as the design is really silly. The distance/sensitivity setting switches are inside the main body of the detector and if you decide you want to alter then once you have mounted it on a wall, you have to unscrew 4 screws on the mounting plate plus 4 fiddly screws on the detector housing to get at them. In a tricky set up like mine on an angle, with a slope, with pets and farm animals to avoid and test with, it took multiple tries to get the settings and position right and unscrewing it each time was frustrating and it worried me that eventually the plastic screw holes would break. Another really stupid design feature is the fact that to charge the detector I'll have to take it down again to plug it in inside somewhere or drag out the extension cord to it. Again, a better design would have an easily removable rechargeable battery so the detector could be left in position. Can't comment on the battery life for now but hope it lasts a good long time for this reason. Saying all that, I did eventually get it up and now the frustration of installation is somewhat forgotten, it is working well so on balance it was worth the extra money. The cheaper model (that was about £15) constantly went off when branches moved in the wind, the sun heated up things in front of it or animals passed it but this one has better sensitivity and distance options so has only had one false alarm so far and accurately warns me when a vehicle or person arrives. The brown housing is unobtrusive and blends well on a fence post and the alarm although a bit tinny is loud enough to hear in the next room but is not too annoying.

Excellent
Excellent Motion Alarm System! ★★★★★ I’ve bought the HOSMART 1/2 Mile Long Range Wireless Driveway Motion Alarm System twice now, and it’s been really reliable. The system comes with a base receiver and three tan sensors, all of which are weatherproof and work perfectly outdoors. The long-range capability is impressive, and I love how it alerts me whenever there’s motion detected on my driveway. It’s easy to set up, and the sensors have a good range and accuracy. Definitely a great investment for anyone needing a reliable motion detection system. Highly recommend!

Does not work off USB power, no product support
Updated: I have some of the older-model receivers, which came with a power supply. One I run off the supplied power supply, the others are also plugged in but with batteries installed - that way, those receivers still work even if there's a power cut, but the batteries in the receivers last for more than a year (as the PSU is almost always providing the power). My new one is the update model, and did not come with a PSU, so I put batteries in it and then plugged it in to a USB-C power supply. A few weeks later, the receiver announced a battery low condition, and I discovered that it was not actually taking any power from the USB-C supply: it only worked if there are batteries in it. I tried a variety of cables, a variety of chargers and power banks - the receiver did not power up with any of them. I tried contacting the maker, but no response so far. So, my advice: do not buy this system. If you do decide to buy, then on day 1 try to see if you can get the receiver working with no batteries installed; if it fails, send it back! I was unfortunate that I only discovered the failure outside the 30-day return window, and now Amazon are passing the buck to the manufacturer, who is ignoring me. I'll update this review if I hear from Amazon or the manufacturer, and for the moment I'm leaving my original review below, in case you are lucky enough to get a working unit. ------------------ My original review: The sensors are discreet, have good range and appear robust and well-sealed. You can assign each sensor to one of 4 channels by means of internal switches, and each channel has a different tune associated with it that is played by receivers when the sensor is triggered. You can also adjust the sensitivity of each sensor, which should help avoid false alarms. The batteries in the sensors can be recharged without opening the units - which is fortunate, as opening the units will be difficult! The internal batteries in the sensor last for a year or so between charges. HOWEVER... I've now bought more sensors, and an additional receiver. The designs have changed, so it is easier to fit the sensors, and instead of having built-in rechargeable batteries you now supply your own batteries, and replace them when needed; no way of recharging them in situ. Fortunately it's pretty easy to remove the sensor from its mounting bracket, and then access the battery compartment. In addition, the receiver has been changed. Previously you got a mains adaptor that supplied power via a micro-usb socket, but now there's a USB-C socket, and no mains adapter or cable in the kit. More importantly, if you already have an older receiver or two and want to have a sensor on channel 2 or 3, you will find the tunes played when the sensor goes off are the other way round. This can be confusing if you have many sensors, as you will no longer be immediately able to tell which sensor has been triggered from the tune you hear: you will have to remember whether the receiver you are hearing in new or old style. If you are buying from scratch, this won't be an issue, but if you are extending an existing system, it's an annoying change which has caused me to downgrade my rating of these products - and makes me wonder whether the Chinese manufacturers will change things again in the future. If the manufacturers read these reviews... what I would like to see is a receiver that I could easily connect to a computer via USB! I could then hook up, say, a Raspberry PI and then control lights, send out alerts via email, keep a log, trigger recording via security cameras, and so on. Yes, I know I could disassemble the receiver and (say) connect the LED drivers to the GPIO pins on my Pi, but it would be nice to do this without having to hack. Another change I would like is to be able control whether the light flashes in the sensor independently from channel selection.

Great product and Awesome Customer Service!
We have a rather long driveway to our house and we spend most of our time in the lounge, which is the room farthest from the driveway. Therefore, we were often not hearing when people would arrive.. which is quite the issue if you're expecting deliveries and there's no-where for them to leave them. In addition to our long drive we also live in a cottage built in the 1890's...which means we have 2-3ft thick stone walls... it's charming, but pretty much kills most signals from outside coming in. I tried several driveway alarms and wasn't very impressed... they either didn't detect very well or if they did, couldn't transmit for a very far distance and through our thick stone walls. HOWEVER... this alarm has been brilliant! I have two set up.... one at the far end of the driveway and one a bit closer in with two different alarm sounds... that way, if it's just a bird or a deer, I'll only hear alarm 1 or alarm 2... usually never both. If both go off, then I know it's a car. Furthermore, I have receivers set up in the house and the garage... so we are alerted no matter which location we are at. It offers 4 different distances for detection so it will pick up just what it needs and nothing further, which is great as there is traffic simply driving by at times. I also love that these detectors are re-chargeable although I haven't had to recharge them since installation, which was done last year, fall of 2020. The receivers run on batteries but do allow for a USB plugin which is convenient... it save my batteries by staying plugged into mains but allows me to unplug and pop it in my pocket if I'm going to be out in the yard or somewhere on the property that wouldn't allow me to hear someone driving up. I've also tested them out as far as sensitivity and they have a great range of detection...it would be very difficult for someone to try and sneak by these guys without being caught! On top of a great product, HOSMART customer service has been awesome! I wanted to order an additional receiver that was on backorder. It was a several month delay before they were available again (due to COVID), but once they were, I placed an order for 2 more receivers. However, something went wrong and the receivers I bought were not available as expected. Since their site incorrectly allowed me to purchase the 2 receivers when they were not in stock, they apologized and sent me 2 full systems (detectors and receivers) instead! They have great communication and are very quick to respond to issues. I'm looking forward to trying more of their products and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from them again!

Product Works But Could Be So Much Better!!!
We own a small (6 acre) farm and wanted to monitor any coming/going down our driveway and farm track. I purchased the unit with 4x sensors and in summary, my initial findings are that it works very well. PROS: - Works as described. - Easy/quick to install. - Batteries nearly fully charged on arrival. - If positioned correctly give very few false alarms. - Works fine to at least 200 metres range. - The tan colour of the sensors blends in nicely with seasoned wood across fences and trees (as you can see from the photos). CONS: - The sensors do give false alarms if the sun or reflections reach the sensor. This could have been avoided to a great extent with a larger hood. I plan to adapt the hoods, possibly by glueing on cheap wooden lolly sticks. - Two of the sensor's four channels enable a red LED on movement. Not good for covert/discrete placement. I don't want people seeing them in the dark, therefore only channel 3 and 4 useful to me. Would rather have separate ability to turn red LED on/off independently regardles of any channel selection. - The ringtones are trully AWFUL and remind me of my aunties home doorbell from the 1980s. - Each of the 4 channels has its own fixed ringtone which cannot be altered. Come on guys, this is 2022! Should be able to add/record your own tones. I'd much prefer the ability to use my own preferred tone/notification sound and also include verbal recorded warnings (e.g. "South Entrance", "Main Driveway", "Front Door" etc.) - Limited by only having 4 channels/sensors. How difficult would it be to have up to ten different channels? A larger property (for which this product is well suited) is likely to need multiple different areas covered and it's important for the property owner to quickly identify/differentiate which location is being triggered. - Can't help but think the battery situation and having to recharge the sensors every so often is going to annoy me. I can't comment on battery life yet, but the option of a small official solar charger or extended battery pack would be welcome. - I worry about how waterproof the sensors are. They are quite cheaply constructed and there isn't a rubber seal between the main front and back sections which the user screws together during installation. - Absolutely no integration with the internet or mobile phones. Again, come on guys, this is 2022! I'd much prefer a notification on my phone than a loud 1980's melody annoying everyone in the house. - The unit struggled with the range on one of our preferred sensor locations. At approximately 325 metres from the house, we think the signal may not be strong enough or that our small wooden outbuilding/shed along with the land's topography may come into play. - Couldn't get a straight answer as to whether more sensors can be added (piggy backing the same four available channels). With a few developments and the utilisation of some new technology, this could be an AMAZING product, bit it is let down by it's dated design and lack of flexibility in the settings.

The Perfect Entry Alarm System
I am very impressed with the Hosmart Driveway Alarm System. It is very straight forward to use and as I always say simplicity is efficiencies best friend. The system is very easy to install. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. The system came with 4 sensors, you simply set each one to the zone you want before putting the sensors together and mounting them on your wall or fence. The sensors come charged but the instructions recommend that you charge them fully before assembly which is simple and they charged fast. I installed the sensors to cover all access points across my property and tested them again and again during the first day I installed the system to make sure they worked fine which they did. We have cats as well as foxes, deer and badgers that come on to our property but with carefully choosing the height, angle and position of the sensors I have had no repeating false alarms. I have found that if an animal does trigger the system, it sounds once. However I got my son to act as an intruder and try outbuilding doors, gates etc. The thing I found was that an intruder will trigger the alarm continually where as an animal may just set a zone off once. Multiple triggers is definitely the sign of an intruder. The system thankfully does not use WIFI which means no WIFI setting up and no drop out if the WIFI goes off. The system also has a battery backup so if the power goes off the system will keep working. The volume is fine and can be adjusted. I can hear it throughout our cottage at the level it is set at when you turn it on. One thing I will point out is that you will need to get used to identifying the 4 different tones by ear to know which zone has been triggered when away from the base station receiver. When you are near the receiver you can see which zone has activated because each zone has a light as well as a tone. The system also came with 2 chargers and the cable length is brilliant, nice and long. There is nothing worse than power leads that are short. No such problem with the Hosmart system. One extra nice touch is that a screwdriver was supplied with the system to help with installing it, so no hunting for a screwdriver if you don't have the right size. The Hosmart Driveway Alarm System gets a full 5 Star rating from me.
