worthwhile gadget for pasta lovers
I'll admit, I love a kitchen gadgets and probably have a few collecting dust. I was skeptical that this would make a difference in my life, but it's proved quite handy. I have small and large pots with straining lids, and while that method works fine for the small pot, it's a bit awkward to hold the lid on a 6-8 qt pot full of boiling water while tipping it and trying not to lose pasta. The Clip and Drain is much sturdier in construction than I expected. It's mostly plastic but not not thin or flimsy; holds up well to hot boiling liquid without warping or softening. The holes are adequate for reasonably fast straining, but still small enough that angel hair pasta doesn't sneak through or clog the holes. It has a spring loaded clip to secure it to the edge of the pot; the faces of the clip with touch the pot are wide, thick, rubbery material which do a great job of holding on to the pot. The bottom of the device (which you cannot see from the main photo) is a semicircular and lipped piece which guides the device onto the lip of the pot. The main piece bows outward slightly and is not flat. Overall size is good, I'd say about the same effective straining area as my flat handheld strainer (akin to the Trudeau Pot Drainer, http://smile.amazon.com/Trudeau-0998017-Pot-Drainer-Red/dp/B004TF7EII/ref=sr_1_6?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1420735792&sr=1-6&keywords=pasta+strainer+with+handle). It works with both my tallish 8 qt pot and short wide 5-6 qt pot. Easy to rinse off and clean by hand; i have not tried putting this in the dishwasher.I prefer this to dumping hot pasta into a colander in the sink to drain, because (1) I can keep the pasta in the hot pot, to add sauce etc, and keep warm on the stove for family members who aren't on time for dinner, and (2) sometimes dishes are piled up in the sink already and I'm too lazy to move them...

Absolutely LOVE this!
I really dislike having to haul out the colander and then wash it. For years my Bialetti pasta pot was the answer. It has a lid that fits on and allows the water to drain. The issue is that the non stick coating tends to wear off over time. After my second Bialetti started wearing out, I started to look for other alternatives. I have All Clad pots and pans and some of them have a lip. I read a ton of reviews and many of the silicone type clip on strainers said they won’t work with a lip. This one seemed like it might. Well, it does. It works with my All Clad and my Instant Pot. It works with large pots and small. We absolutely love it. It’s so easy to pull out, use and then clean. As others have mentioned, you do have to drain carefully but that isn’t a big deal. I had to drain carefully with the Bialetti as well. So, you pour a little slower. It’s sure better than having a hunking colander in the way and then having to scrub it. I wish I had discovered this sooner.

BUY IT just pour a bit more slowly than with a sink colander.
It works well and stays on..so far so good. Downside is it's not wide enough to handle a whole box of large pasta so I knocked off a star. It probably won't fit large AND small pots if it's any wider so that may just be a tradeoff for the convenience and SMALL STORAGE requirement...which is awesome in my small kitchen. I have lost a bit of noodles in the sink due to over pouring, but I think it will be fine once I'm used to it. I've also poured water on myself not aiming correctly ...lol...so just get used to it first. I had lids with a built in strainer on a set of pots and they were hands down the best. This is a close second. Trying out a few more times then will pitch my old sink colander if the clip seems to be holding up. so far I LOVE this product! j in stl

Great for camping
On those woesome days when you try every type of bait or lure and bring nothing back to the campsite but dry salty tears... have some spaghetti! And it's so easy to make, plus just snap on this handy strainer and drain the excess water away. Now drown those noodles with marinara sauce and gobble it all up!

Must have kitchen utensil!
This is a must-have kitchen utensil! I have one in our camper, and just had to get one for the house, too. I have bad shoulders, and less strength in my hands and wrists than I used to. This single-clip, one hand strainer is very easy to use. Many clip-on strainers available now have two clips. So it would take both hands to clip it on, or a two-step procedure. Which is not necessary at all. I can grab this, clip it on with one hand and pour the water off pasta, vegetables, potatoes, etc. It’s also great to drain fat from cooked meats. And the big bonus is that you can just pop it in the dishwasher! You may not think a separate colander is a big deal. Until you use this!

A must have.
I love this thing. If for any reason it ever breaks I will replace it immediately. Does exactly what you would think and does a great job.

Works well and will drain rice !
The chefs planet clip and drain worked very wellI used it on a 5 1/4 inch diameter rice cooker pot to drain raw basmati rice ( rinsing multiple times to remove excess starch before cooking). Not one grain of rice escaped.I used it on a 6 inch diameter pot ( holds 1 litre ) to drain off the whey from the curds when making cheese. No issuesOne pot had a lip and the other straight sides and it worked perfectly on both typesIt’s small and I don’t know how it would work on draining on a larger pot. The holes are small which is good for rice but may take longer than you expect to drain a larger pot.The clip is easy to get onto a pot and is very secure. I wasn’t at all worried it would come off. It’s easy enough that putting it on a hot pot after cooking is not a concernIt did not scratch my non stick potIt’s ABS plastic not silicone. That doesn’t concern me as I am not cooking food in it but if that is a concern be aware. It’s easy to store ( takes up little space vs a collinder)I bought and subsequently threw out a flexible clip on silicone strainer that was a nightmare to clip on because the clips didn’t open very wide. This chefs planet strainer is a keeper.Would like it if they also made a bigger version

Easy
Works like a charm.

Good idea, just not for us
Doesn't fit our pots because they have a lip around the top edge so the clip will not attach.
