Inexpensive, but fairly consistent
I am weighing items that average 51.00 Grains. If you are unfamiliar with Grains as a weight. 51 grains is 3.30 grams - a very small weight. I could weigh a couple dozen items and separate them in 50.8, 50.9, 51.0, 51.1,etc. batches. I could then go back and weigh a single batch and they are all very close to the original weight. That is pretty good consistency. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead or 5 is that twice I had to display "UNST", which I think means unstable. I could not clear it by calibrating or power cycling it. It did return to a functional condition when I pulled a battery out, waited a few seconds, replaced the battery and turned it back on.

A Fly Little Scale
This scale will "READ" down to 0.001 grams.BUT, it also has a RANGE of "possible" or "uncertain error" (off from exact, true weight) of plus OR minus NO MORE than 0.005 grams. When used correctly. The scale comes with 2 CALIBRATION weights stored neatly within its tray, and safely under its lid.You need to set it up on a sturdy level surface and let the scale "warm up" for at least 60 seconds prior to calibration with the 2 included weights. The calibration procedure is extremely easy, and "sets the scale up" to make a very accurate measurement.I found this scale to be VERY ACCURATE.It performed WITHIN the limits of its stated error range. And it did so repeatedly. The instructions tell you, if you require greater accuracy you will need a (far more expensive) laboratory-grade scale.I'm basically VERY IMPRESSED with this low cost machine. It even comes with included weighing accessories, which will allow you to measure many different types of substances very accurately. The one I received performed very well within it's stated specifications.Anything which departed from that, was due only to (my) user error. And those, become obvious by simply repeating the measurement.(Just as in carpentry for example, the old adage is: "Measure twice. Cut once." to eliminate YOUR mistakes.)You do need to read and understand the instructions and should keep them for future reference too. When you're weighing something down to this precision you're approaching the scientific realm. So take your time.It was repeatedly accurate down to within 5, ONE THOUSANDTHS, of a SINGLE GRAM.(Or you could just say, "accurate down to WITHIN 5 MILLIGRAMS of the ACTUAL WEIGHT of some object or substance".)For some perspective your, "average house fly" apparently weighs about 10 milligrams. So you should be able to weigh down to about half the weight of an "average house fly".And that's pretty good, for only around $20 (as of the time of this writing.)

Good Stability and Dead-On Repeatability
I wasn't expecting as good results as I got. The box was stuffed with all of the parts that were promised. The batteries are cheap junk, so they get replaced with something I can trust not to leak. It also comes with a USB cable, but the instructions do no mention anything about using it. so I don't know if it can be used for charging batteries in the scale or if it just to USB power the device.Setup was easy and detailed in the instructions. The instructions lack a detailed illustration of the different icons that can be found on the display. See the photo included with this review. I am assuming that the left 'bar' icon is to show battery strength. The 'left 'plug' icon should show when it is powered by USB and after playing with the scale for a while I think the left lower icon that looks like a bullseye is to show when the item being weighed has stabilized on the platform. All of the icons on the right are for the different weight measurements that can be used. The calibration weights that are included are to calibrate the scale for accuracy. I followed the procedure and the scale was calibrated. For a sanity check I reweighed the calibration weights individually and together and they weighed exactly 20.000 grams each and 40.000 grams to the thousandth of a gram. I weighed a number of coins, since that was what I bout the scale for and as I re-weighed several of them they repeated exact weights to the thousandth of a gram. The instructions specifically say that this precision is not to be expected if you are weighing items that weigh less than 0.009 grams. Since my weighing was at a higher weight, I found the precision to be pretty good. I would say that you could expect precision to be around +/- 0.002 grams. That was way more than I expected.Just a caution, I noticed that the reading of a weight changed if the door was closed vs open. Since you cannot calibrate the included weights with the door closed, I used the weights given with the door open. I could not find a method to accurately calibrate the scale with the door closed.Overall, I was pleased with the results I got from the little scale. I'm very pleased.
