Stick with it, they do work
Not the easiest of things to get working but I got them working in the end. Some background info. These need to be able to log in to your Wifi Router on the 2.4GHz band. You need to tell the units the name of your network and the password. then they log on and connect to a server (I think in Germany). The app will also log in to the server. Now, when the sockets are in the programming mode - fast flashing LED- they will connect to the smart phone directly - it probably sets up its own WiFi network to which the phone running the app. It would seem a good idea to only program one socket at a time. Once the app finds the socket you can enter the WiFi name and password. It then goes off and finds the server.Even getting the SmartLife app to work can be fun. Once downloaded (using any WiFi or 3G/4G internet) it asks for an email address or phone number. This is so it can send you a login one time pass code. I found it easier to give it the number of a spare phone I had, not an email address. After a moment an SMS gets sent to that phone. You simply type that code into the App to get it to authenticate. So to sum up, first down load the app. get the one time pass code and enter it. Make sure the app can connect to the server. Run the app, plug one socket in close to your phone and tell the app to search. Once it finds the socket enter your 2.4GHz WiFi details. Give it a bit of time, the phone needs to reconnect to your WiFi and the socket needs to connect to the WiFi and locate the server and with a bit of luck you should have your first socket working.I have no idea why people say they have to turn their 5GHz WiFi off or rename their 2.4GHz wifi. The socket will ignore 5GHz even if it has the same name. Provided you have DUAL 5 / 2.4GHz or just 2.4GHz network the socket will be able to communicate. Your phone needs to connect at 2.4GHz to the socket for programming but most phones will do this without a problem.Once setup the app can be on a phone on 2.4 / 5 GHz or mobile data broadband in any location as it is simply connecting to the website of the server. One point I have not seen mentioned anywhere is that the socket will be given it's own IP address from your router. If you were to try and have dozzens of sockets you could find a cheap router my not be happy to have so many devices connected at the same time as other laptops, phones, TVs, BluRay, fridges. coffee makers dogs, cats etc etc

Needs a 2.4ghz WiFi connection
Got this today to let my Google Home Mini turn off and on our Christmas tree lights. It’s very small, hardly notice it in the socket. Couldn’t find any instructions although when I checked again there is a leaflet in the box. But by that time I was already set up and using it. It took three attempts to connect with the app but once it had, setting it up in Google Home was a doddle. Works like a charm.

Too wide
Works OK, but it is too wide and interferes with the socket power switch. I had to put it in a trailing socket to make use of it.
