I've seen 5 hour energy products around for a very long time and never once tried any of them. I generally avoid 250mg of caffeine any time other than right before a workout. But as this product is aimed directly at working out - I figured I'd tried it out. My first usage was mid afternoon on a day I had slept poorly and felt run-down and tired. I drank half a bottle. I never got tired all day. I had expected to need a short nap but nope, never even got close to that level of tiredness. I then tried a full bottle pre-workout and I honestly thought it wasn't doing anything at all as I felt nothing. But at the gym I actually had a solid workout and had energy and even some extra focus. The product appears to provide me with a very clean, non jittery energy that just keeps me going and allows me to work out a bit harder without really getting in the way if that makes any sense. The flavor is OK. It's kinda a tropical citrus chemically thing that is not too bad but not great either. It's easy to take half a bottle, the full bottle starts getting a bit "meh" to swallow - but it isn't too bad. Definitely nothing close to the enjoability of many pre workouts I've taken - but those were all powders and not shots like this. Price is a bit high - flavor is meh - but the product works in a way I've never really felt before... so I am giving it 4* just for that.

The mix of 230mg of caffeine and b vitamins definitely give you some stimulating effect for a workout or physical activity, but the energy wasn't focused for studying or mental activities. The taste wasn't bad, but I'm glad the bottles are only 2oz since I wouldn't want to sip on a big bottle of it. For $2.50 a bottle, these aren't cheap and I'd prefer an energy drink for the price, plus it's enjoyable to drink. If you're looking for a pre-workout substitute, these are probably an expensive option, but I imagine these are really good for long drives, to stay awake, alert and safe to drive. ⭐️1 star - I don't recommend it at all, either quality, or misrepresented listing. ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars - I wouldn't recommend it as it has multiple faults or a very high price. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars - It's acceptable but has faults making it hard to recommend or consider repurchasing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars - Product above acceptable it does what it promises, I would consider repurchasing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars - Product that I totally recommend without reservation

I use pre-workout supplements a lot, but I didn't know the 5 hour energy brand had one as well. So far, I have tried these shots a few times, either before a workout or at some point in the afternoon when I felt like I had low energy. The 230mg of caffeine definitely gives you a kick, so I have to be careful not to take one of these too late in the afternoon. As far as a pre-workout, these shots are OK. Per serving, these shots are expensive compared to my normal pre-workout supplement, and I would say compared to my usual pre-workout, these shots are not any better or more effective. However, as a convenient and fast pick-me-up, these shots are really handy. I always have one in my car/purse/gym bag...just in case! I do think these shots are somewhat overpriced, but since I don't use them too often, a 24 pack will last me around 2-3 months. As far as taste, these are pretty good. The citrus boost flavor tastes pleasantly orange-y to me.

I've rarely if ever used 5-Hour Energy, but decided to try these Pre-Workout ones to see how they might work compared to a powdered mix-in. I chugged a full bottle and then went on a run for a bit over an hour. The taste is decent, and there's no denying there's some serious caffeine in there, but I don't know that I felt especially energized. I didn't fall asleep on my feet, though, so that's something. 5-Hour Energy certainly isn't known for their clean ingredient list, so I'd take their advice about going easy with these things. But if you need something to perk you up and the cleaner options aren't doing it it may be a good excuse to throw one of these back. If nothing else, it should keep you awake, and sometimes that's all you're looking for.
