Does the metal plate on the back of the phone affect phone signal??

Not at all. I have had one on my phone for over two years and have had no issues.

How can you remove it?

Heat it up.. hair dryer.. and peel it off

My case has a velvet lining will it still adhere to phone and get through the case?

It should, they are pretty strong. My phone case has 2layers... a thin rubber layer and a hard shell casing. It works through both.
