This was originally a good looking hat that seemed to offer a lot of sun protection due to the silver-color of the reflective material. But, over time, it has mostly turned black (see photo) which absorbs rather than reflects sun's rays, meaning it absorbs heat. I've tried washing it but that does not restore the silver color. I got one good year use from this, then it degraded quickly.

I LOVE this 98% UV blocking hat, since most other UV protection is only SPF 50. I wear a 7.25 hat size & this hat fits me perfectly, after making a slight adjustment to the adjustable head band. I LOVE the additional UV protection, since my skin Cancer is/was near my top forehead hair line & grew a baby - "pre-cancerous" growth within 1 year of the initial removal. Lots of folks have complimented me on my "tin hat" as I term it. It is a tiny bit heavier than most UV protection hats, on account of the additional silver UV blocking material, but I LOVE it's ADDITIONAL protection. And I feel SO much more secure when I'm out & about wearing it. I highly recommend this hat for folks who enjoy the out doors & wish to avoid UV exposure.

I just received this hat today and have already worn it. The thing I like about this hat is that it has a wide brim. However, there are a couple things that I don't like. First of all, the hat is not as ventilated as it appears in the photo. The ventilation is only on the sides. It appears to also be ventilated on the front and back; but, since those parts are covered by the fabric, it's not really effective. Also, the hat is very tight. I am hoping that the hat just needs to be broken in to loosen it up. The adjustment strap on the back of the hat works; but, it might not be necessary to use for people with average sized heads. I would not label it as one size fits all.

As an Arizona resident, I have been wearing this hat outside during hot summer days reaching actual temps of 110 F° and hotter. I feel the burning heat of the sun on my arms and legs, but this reflective hat keeps my scalp and neck from feeling the burn. When the forecast high temps are going to be in the 110's, I limit outdoor exposure to avoid heat stroke, however I stay cool headed a little longer with my Alchemi Labs River Hat. I have ordered another one in a different color.

I bought this for my wife. She loves it. Wore it all day today in the sun and was much cooler that usual in this nice Houston summer weather.It is a bit snug on a 7 3/8 or 7 1/2 size head, which seems to be its maximum size. This is unfortunate for me, because I am 7 1/2 plus I like to wear a Mission cooling towel as a sweat band. The combination is too much, but it would be ideal for the high direct sun and 100% humidity we have here. (The Mission cooling towel is put on dry, not wet as they recommend. It holds a magnificently large amount of sweat and prevents it from falling into my eyes. Much more of the sweat is able to be evaporated due to the improved surface area.)The brilliance of this hat design is that it really reflects the sun and it promotes air movement while it actually stays on your head.Wish they made a slightly bigger hat.

I am currently recovering from brain tumor surgery. It's my first and only trip to the river and needed a hat that would protect from the 8+ scar that runs from the top of the head all the way down into the nech. This hat is light weight, strong drawstring and the top is a reflective surface. I will be well protect from over heading my brain which can cause me to have a stroke or seizure for my only trip this summer! I'm really happy with the quality and this purchase

I am so glad I purchased this hat! I have a history of skin cancer, and I find that this hat gives me the sun protection that I need. This is a terrific product that I would recommend to anyone who wears a hat for sun protection. This hat provides all the protection anyone could ever need.

The River Hat just arrived today. It is very lightweight, collapses flat as a pancake for easy packing , very comfortable, and may become my favorite summer hat. It fits my men's extra large head well and has a drawstring adjustment for smaller heads.
