Let's say you need to put a ledger board in a closet. A pocket hole into 7/8" material requires a 3" screw to get through the pocket, 7/8" of board, 5/8" of drywall, and into the corner stud (at an angle). And you know what? These do exactly that. And they work with my <brand name> pocket hole jig. And they self cut nicely. And they don't snap off. And that ledger board is never going anywhere. And I may have a few spares. But hey, cheaper to have spares than buy fewer in store.
