bought this after we had bought one for someone else a few years ago
The headline says it all. There's a CA Prop 65 warning saying the product may cause cancer or reproductive harm with no other information. I called the company and they didn't provide any helpful information. CA's website about Prop 65 specifically says the warnings are provided "only about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm" and that a warning must be given "unless the exposure is low enough to pose no significant risk of cancer or is significantly below levels observed to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm." So the fact that there's a warning means that the exposure isn't low enough to pose no significant risk. I couldn't throw it out fast enough.

Good, not great
The first sharpening slot doesn’t grab the knife half as well as the second finishing slot. As a result, you don’t get much improvement, so plan to spend time supplementing using this, with a steel. And it’s not going to “sharpen” a dull knife very well. It’ll do an average job to clean up an already decently sharp knife, but it’s no replacement for honing on a wet stone, if that’s what you’re hoping. It’s safer than a steel- if you’re not comfortable using one. But that’s about the level of improvement you’ll get from this.

... that not only were a lot of our knives dull, but the sharpener wasn't looking so great either
We had a dinner party coming up and I realized that not only were a lot of our knives dull, but the sharpener wasn't looking so great either. So I went to Amazon to find a knife sharpener and I quickly came across the Xtrem product. Being a firm believer in "you get what you pay for," I was a bit skeptical of this product due to the cheap price, but after studying it decided it was worth a try and if nothing else would do for now. Well, we sharpened a LOT of knives, butcher knives to cut through bone, steak knives, and some more delicate knives as well. The edge was great on all of them, they're still sharp, and we've used it on many more knives since including a filet knife for fish. I'm not sure exactly how many knives have been sharpened, but the product looks like it hasn't even been used! I'd highly recommend this product.

best knife sharpener
Great knife sharpener. Love that is has a handle to easily grip while sharpening a knife. I sharpened two dull kitchen knives and both are now near razor sharp. Well built, easy to store in a kitchen drawer, should last forever. Great buy!

Great little sharpener
Works better than expected. I have tried several sharpeners and they didn't sharpen quite like I'd hoped, this little sharpener worked very well, I was pleasantly surprised. I would buy again

Super sharpener
This hand held sharpener impressed me. It will sharpen all your knives with a course and then fine stone follow up and it's easy to hold and store. Not really designed for serrated blades but if they are bad enough you will be able to improve their edge. Certainly a good value for the money.
