this is a solid choice
Great River Milling’s Organic Dark Rye Flour is an excellent addition for anyone looking to enhance their sourdough baking. **I mixed this flour with my whole wheat flour when making sourdough, and it gives my bread a nice sweet flavor**—a subtle depth that makes each loaf more enjoyable. However, **you do have to be careful** because rye flour holds more water than wheat flour. Getting that perfect oven spring takes some trial and error, and **it can take some work to avoid making a few bricks along the way!** But once you get the balance right, the results are well worth the effort. Beyond the baking adjustments, **I recommend this product because it’s easily accessible, works well, and tastes great.** Whether you're an experienced baker or just experimenting with rye flour, this is a solid choice that brings rich, hearty character to homemade bread.

Good value
Good value and product. Share with friend who bake too if you can’t use it before expiration date. Although it’s a long time. I will surely order again when it’s gone.

Best I’ve used in 40+ years
Great flour! I use this for bread and seems to be the best I’ve found so far so I’ll stop looking right here. Satisfied finally after 40 years. My breads taste and smell wonderful!

good flour, why so expensive?
No complaints with the flavor, freshness, or packaging, nice that it is available here, local grocery stores don't have rye flour any more. Why is eye so expensive?

The absolute best Dark Rye Flour
This is the beat dark rye flour I have found. It lasts quite a while and it stays fresh as it is in 20 oz zip lock bags. The big selling point for me is that I bake everything with sourdough. My friends finally asked me how I keep my starter and why does my starter seem to work better. The answer is this rye flour. I tried a few other brands as well as other types of flours but did not get the same results. The sourdough rye bread is fantastic. My friends want to buy it but I just gift them a loaf. I do not constantly feed my starter and it takes very little of the rye flour to keep it happy. I have gone two weeks and the starter perks up right away. I do this the day before I want to make my dough. I replace my starter when I make waffles right away so it will keep the same amount in my jar. The sourdough Artisan Rye Bread with homemade corned beef creates the best Ruben sandwiches and the bread does not get soggy from the sauerkraut. My family will not order one in a restaurant because they say their sandwiches were tasteless in comparison, they do not compare. Before I used this rye flour in my starter I could not get pancakes that would be fluffy they were always flat.

Excellent rye flour
I don’t know about where you live, but where I live finding good rye flour is very challenging. I’ve used other grains from this company in the past and I really like them so I had no issue trying their flour. It’s excellent and it works very well in my leib (Estonian black bread) that I make. It’s a decent price too especially if you don’t have a lot of choices like me. I’m very pleased with it.

The nostalgic flavor
Good quality flour, I like the texture and the final result. Not too fine, just good for a home made bread.
