It's expensive, I'm not going to beat around the bush, it's very expensive but researching diagnostic tools for cars for a few months now before pulling the trigger and trying a few out and I'm so glad I ended on this one. I purchased a 'Launch' branded Diag a few months back and sent it back, didn't do everything i needed and was quite slow/laggy when pressing the screen. My brother works in a car shop and i borrowed their Snap-On one a while back but for the price of those it's not worth it. I ended up with TopDon after seeing many comments on the brand and watching YouTube videos. I only wanted a cheap one until i started comparing models and that grew to "well i can pay the extra £200 i'll get the next one up" and that kept happening till i ended up deciding on the top of the range TopDon offers. I waited for a sale and never looked back. Functionality, does everything i need on the multiple cars I own and will end up owning. Updates are prompt, everytime i log on there is a new brand of car update. I can modify codes, unlock new features, haven't had an issue since. Already comes with a screen protector as well. So no need to purchase on or worry about scratching the screen working on your cards. It looks good, it connects to your WiFi and downloads/installs fine. The only thing I will say is, it is heavy, it comes with a stand which I'm thankful for cause i couldn't keep a hold of it often, rests on the wheel nicely.

I previously had a Carly ODB reader but a recent update by Carly rendered that useless on our car (a Mercedes ML250). I was always really disappointed with the Carly on the Mercedes - it wouldn’t code any features and the codes were unhelpful to say the least, but it was better than nothing. However, following the update (Carly at least refunded me the money) I bought this as I had faulty parking sensors at the rear of the car and I am blown away by how good it is. Build quality is spot on - it’s rugged and it scans SO much quicker than the Carly. And the features it provides blew me away - not only do I get in-depth codes and helpful repair details but I discovered I could dive in and code features - after 7 years, I now finally have rear parking sensors that beep as soon as they start picking up an obstacle (Mercedes default for some crazy reason is to only beep when things are really close!!). It also perfectly diagnosed the rear sensor fault - telling me one sensor was faulty and the one I’d replaced, I’d replaced with the wrong version! Additionally, it allows you to see live frame data as the car is running and also allows you to activate individual body components - like lowering or raising the rear air suspension on our BMW E70 X5 when I needed to replace a rear suspension air bag, or putting wipers into the park position to help with changing the wiper arms - it’s absolutely fantastic. I really can’t tell you how impressed I am! Update - have owned this for some months now and it continues to impress. The ability to access true service menus on the Merc - way ahead of the Carly - is fantastic, and the reports it generates via WR code or direct to email is just brilliant. It does seem to need to be connected to WiFi to work properly; even if you’ve no WiFi where you’re working, I find I can easily tether it to my phone’s personal WiFi hotspot and it works a treat. Brilliant bit of kit and worth every penny.

As car prices are getting more outrageous, I'm doing more service to my cars so I can keep them longer. I was at the point where I wanted more than my $100 scanner could do. From watching Youtube videos, I decided I needed a Bi-Directional scanner so I can do more in-depth monitoring of my cars and more complex diagnosing. I watched many videos and saw the name Topdon and started looking at this model. It's a midrange scanner and exceeds what I need know but I know I will grow into it. One thing I wanted was a scanner that did in depth transmission diagnosis. These screen shots are from a 2017 Traverse and wow does it have a lot of modules this scanner can talk too. Another thing I recommend is get used to the menu system as I would find a test and then later not remember where I found it. The screen shots above show the path to get to the features I need. I see long term fuel trim is off a little and I need to investigate that. Maybe the air cleaner is dirty or worse and a rodent may have made a nest in the airbox and is messing up the fuel trim. The blutooth wireless connected quickly with the scanner and worked flawlessly. There is lots more to learn about this and I watched the Topdon Youtube video on the many features which helps me see the power of this unit. This unit feels well put together and not cheaply made. The only thing I see missing is a kickstand in the back to stand the unit up. You will be impressed with this unit.

Very cool tool, very easy to setup - wifi, registration is just a couple taps; downloaded modules for several makes, it connected to the car instantly, identified the VIN and fetched the codes with no problem (I haven't tried any resets yet, like throttle or oil). The touchscreen is great, responsive, menus and navigation are intuitive. (the unit I received from Amazon was used and registered to other buyer, but Topdon's support solved that pronto - Thanks again!)
