Islamic Biomorphic Patterns: Creating Motifs Inspired by the Natural World

I bought this book to inspire me to create my own designs, as well as to provide a framework for how to approach these kinds of patterns. The book is fantastic, and the projects it contains could probably fill up several months. The author provides extremely clear, step-by-step instructions and enough of the underlying logic behind the patterns for someone to begin creating their own, after some practice. Very worth it!

Having encountered the author's excellent guides to Islamic patterns on-line, I was keen to get this book when it came available. I know little about Islam and Islamic art but have always been fascinated by tesselations as used in Islamic buildings. This book gives detailed guidance on their history, how they are constructed and suggests the correct techniques to colour the designs. An excellent resource for anyone who wants to explore this type of art.

I just received this book in France and it is high quality. The designs are very well explained and I can't wait to get started and learn the techniques.

The book strikes a great balance between providing enough general information and yet including a lot great examples of hands on work.
