Disclaimer: I liked Prometheus. So there. Which I thought told an interesting story. It's a shame Covenant tried to go on with that and go fan pleasing alien stuff at the same time. Trashing what Prometheus had set up and not pleasing anyone as a result. So now the franchise has to try something else. Which is a new story. Can be said without spoilers it's set between Alien and Aliens. It has an opening scene which is rather like many books I've read. Where there's a prologue that doesn't feel as if it's anything to do with what follows. Yet if you bear with it things quickly make sense.Lead character is Rain [Cailee Spaeny. Also seen earlier this year as Jessie in Civil War. I never realised it was her till looking at imdb just now]. Living and working on a Weylan Yutani mining planet, she looks after her brother Andy. Desperate to get away, she accepts an offer from four other individuals who need Andy's help to get into an abandoned company station and get things from there. They should be in and out in thirty minutes. What could possibly go wrong? This grabbed me pretty quickly, because it makes you care for Rain and Andy right away. The main cast is small [including Isabella Merced. Who will be Hawkgirl in Superman next year] It does fill the other four characters in as it moves along. They do end up being three dimensional and rounded individuals. Also, I noticed the lighting right away. It's dark. But it's never too dark. You can always see what's going on. Which is nice. Can't talk about the plot without spoilers. It does have a good story though. It fits itself firmly into this world continuity wise. It keeps things moving along. There are some very good set pieces and some very scary moments. The actor who plays Andy in particular shows some superb versatility. There's some very impressive film making technology on display. Some wonderful space visuals as well. The shots you get are stunning. Some good physics involved also. The characters held my attention and I did want to see what was going to happen to them. It really does keep the tension going also. However:The last act of this just goes on a bit too long. It could probably do with losing about five to ten mins for pacing during this bit. So that let it down just a little.Even so, I had a really good time with this and thought it was a great experience. It's not quite as stand alone as Prey and Rain is a little less potentially vulnerable than Naru. But was still a very good lead.Continuity can sometimes become fan service, but....nothing that this did hit the wrong mark with me. Spoilers.Well worth seeing on the big screen. In the dark cinema and with a big screen, it was an involving experience. Really enjoyed this. Also I think what this franchise needed. Although any further films will need the same level of attention to make them work as well.Nothing extra during or after the end credits. The dvd goes into the main menu when loaded with no ads or trailers. There's no extras at all.Language and subtitle options:Languages: English. Castilian Spanish. English audio description.Subtitles: English. Castilian Spanish. Danish. Finnish. Norwegian. Swedish.

brilliant film,
brilliant addition to the Alien/s franchise, extended extras a bit on the thin/poor side, but film sits snugly in the Alien/s movie timeline (if you've watched them, not that you need to)... I enjoyed Romulus more than Prometheus and Covenant... good SciFi movie...

Terrific value, magnificent movie.
Alien: Romulus is a terrific movie. Filled with the action and horror we all know and love from the Alien franchise. Also great cast and fantastic special effects. The 4K is a stunning presentation of this wonderful thriller.Amazon have slipped lately, making me wait an entire week to deliver this new title, actually not dispatching until 3 days after order, to meet the disappointing delivery estimate. I'm a Prime Member, but lately it's only for Prime Video. The One-Day deliveries have been shocking few and far between for me.But a brilliant addition to my collection. Plus great value from Fox/Disney, bundling both the 4K and regular Blu-ray disc together for only £10 more over the solo Blu-ray, meaning you get the 4K disc for an extra tenner. Can't go wrong with that. And also comes in a slip case, so you could sell off the Blu-ray for a smaller price to a mate and give them a sleeve with it of your choosing and recoup some cash on your 4K. Sweet. In space, you can hear me scream my love for this flick.

Where's the tension?
A decent watch but not special. I'm slightly disappointed as I love the Alien movies. Of the major ones, I think it's the weakest in some ways. The plot was minimal and was a less interesting rehash of Alien 3. Nothing was added to the lore. The cast was bland and not a patch on Ripley and Hicks etc. The original Alien and Aliens casts particularly blow them out of the water. Direction was solid without being dazzling but somehow the CGI/effects just seemed a little too 'glossy' for this universe. I felt very little suspense throughout the movie and had a strong sense that I'd seen every scene before (after the slow first 20 mins). The only thing that really stood out for me was David Jonsson and the Andy character. I was rooting for Andy (bad or good lol). It's not a bad film. It's not a major letdown. Pretty much everything is competent to a level you would expect of this franchise. BUT it wasn't compelling for me and for the first time I felt no tension or horror throughout the movie when the xenomorphs appeared. I will watch it again and hope it will grow on me (or reveal more than I got on first watch).

Not a bad movie
Not much to say but a good movie especially for those who like the Alien trilogy, but does have a different feel to it

Not bad, not great, quite good.
After the previous sequels and the fact that it's Disney I didn't expect too much but I have to admit it's quite good. I think it's my 3rd favourite after the first 2 movies now. Surprisingly very good acting although if they were older it would be more believable. Also, one of the few examples when the slipcase design is better than the steelbook in my opinion. Wait for any of these to go on sale.
