She And Her Cat

Fantastic short read from makoto shinkai

I bought this book in a job lot. I didn’t think it was something I would like. So I put in on the to sell pile. It was a rainy day and I had nothing to do so decided to check a few of the books out before selling. Most of them were dropped after a few pages. It came this books turn. As mentioned in the title, I really enjoyed this. It was an enjoyable and emotional ride. I don’t even have a pet, let alone a cat. I think all animal lovers would love this. I’m now keeping it. And will look for more Shinkai.

It's by no means a bad story, but it feels very incomplete in this format and makes me wonder what I've missed. It felt like I started in the middle of a story and never quite got to the end, yet the book clearly finished where it intended. I was also briefly confused by the format, as while in translation the book is still structured Right to Left as in Japanese works. In hindsight this makes complete sense as the structure of the illustrations wouldn't work in reverse! On the other hand it's a gentle work, and a very calm one. In structure it reminds me of the episode-of-life short story format, where you drop in and view a small segment of a character's life. It isn't intended to have either a beginning or an end, just an entrance and an exit.

I took the photo after I cleaned it but there were coffee, scuff and scratch marks as well as the covers being bent. It appears to have water damage. There’s also paint chipping off the cover

Scratches on the front cover... the story wasn’t a good as I expected it to be it was kind of boring

It was an ok read, I felt it was missing a lot of the story and it ended pretty abruptly.

This book is great and it tells a stories of a person growing up and adjusting to adulthood and its difficulties. The perspective of this story is very interesting because it is told in the perspective of the cat instead of humans which is not too common. The illustrations are very beautiful. This book is a very enjoyable read and I definitely recommend it. -Javin Liu

Me parece un dulce libro, muy recomendable para los amantes de los gatos.

I loved the She and Her Cat short movie that was included with the dvd of Voices of a Distant Star, and this is a great manga version of that short. It goes into a little bit more depth than the short (it was 5 minutes after all) but still stays simple. Slice of life about a girl struggling with life, from the viewpoint of her cat. This isn’t a manga version of the anime with that name but yet it feels related. I highly recommend the original 5 minute movie to get even more into the story. At times it can be confusing as to who is talking, like when the girl is on the phone or when people walk by her.

Es ist die gezeichnete Version des Romans "She and her cat", habe ich zuerst gekauft, da die Beschreibung im Amazon nicht klar genug war. Hat mir trotzdem sehr gefallen und mich gerührt. Die Zeichnungen sind super! Habe die Romanversion - Titelbild mit einem roten Kätzchen - nachgekauft, 1x für mich und dann noch 2x für meine Freundinnen. Der Roman ist eindeutiger, detaillierter, einfacher zu verstehen. Diese Mangaversion, ist ein Auszug aus dem Roman, aber trotzdem ein Gewinn. Ich finde beide, Manga und Roman, sind kleine Kunstwerke für sich. Bin froh sie zu haben.
