Nice set and a good value
The media could not be loaded. The sound quality is good, water vapor "steam" looks good and the Bluetooth hooked up effortlessly to my Lionchief app. Nice set for the price.

Great for kids
This is the 5th Lionel Ready to Play train set we have bought for our children. Great for young train lovers who are not ready for the more advanced sets. Fairly durable, all of our five sets are still running, despite abuse. The train and cars looks great. Perfect for running around a Christmas tree. Much nicer than other sets that may be slightly cheaper. The train requires a significant number of batteries (6 C, and 3 AA), but last countless hours without needing new. With the sales Lionel runs around Christmas, these are very affordable. We had tried a number of other sets, but this is the best for the price point. And probably the best line of train sets without spending multiple hundred dollars. With multiple sets of Lionel ready to play trains, we now have enough tracks (all interchangable) to build a massive layout around the house. The track pieces have held up to being assembled and disassembled hundreds of times. If you have young children (under 3-10) who love trains, these Lionel ready to play sets are as good as it gets.

Works great 3 1/2 year old can control it
Perfect to play with supervised with an adult. The kids really love it. I thought it might be a little slow for them, but nope, it gets their imaginations going. Put a tiny piece of paper on the track and say it's a pretend penny. Make a cardboard tunnel. Lots of FUN. Battery powered runs for weeks. Just be sure it's off or you will be buying batteries. The engine makes a sound if it's on, either connected to the controller with an engine sound or a searching for the link sound so it's easy to be sure on the engine, but the controller has to be shut down too. Tracks are great, just a bit of give to them and not brittle from our experience. They will come apart but not that easily. It's easy to make a track from the supplied parts. Just install batteries, which is easy enough and you're good to go.

So far, so good!
The media could not be loaded. My great-grandson will be 3 in July. I got him an electric trainset and he broke one of the tracks and parts off of the train the first day. So I put it up and ordered this. I love this larger size. I can't say how durable it is since we just got it today, but working fine. I do agree with the others that it is hard to put the train on the tracks, hard to hook them together and easy for them to come apart, though. I didn't see the 8 straight pieces of track and saw that others had the same complaint. I was going to message the seller on Amazon, but they gave a phone number to the company. The company answered right away and told me to look at the other end of the box and the train tracks were in a box at the end. I found it! I hope that some didn't have the tracks and never found them. I wouldn't have if I didn't call the company. Sage loves it and it helps when his cousin Emily helps him! After I took the pictures, I added the straight pieces and made it a large oval. Praying it lasts well. I would not have paid the $93 price, sure wouldn't be worth that. But I bought a used one, like new, and it was excellent and only 41.95! I think it will definitely be worth that price!

This is a great train with little ones around.
I have actually bought two of these. The Polar Express for my own enjoyment around the Christmas Tree every year and this one, the Pennsylvania Flyer for my grandson. Obviously they are not the trains in 0 or 0-27 for model railroad hobbyists. But they look good, the battery operated locomotive becomes heavy with the batteries and pulls really well. They stay on the track and little ones can operate them. The sounds from the engine and control are well received by children. I have had my Polar Express for many years and have found it to be durable and reliable. Extra track and switches are available and these trains are worthy of them. It's fun to have them go around the Christmas Tree, under the couch and coffee table, and to take a side excursion with the switches. Yes I have bought quite a bit of extra track. I would ask Lionel to make additional cars available as the locomotives are more than capable of pulling them. If you keep your expectations in line with the purpose of these sets, you will be very happy with them. It's a simple train, from an actual model train company, that performs quite well. Hard to beat.

Cars won't stay hooked together
This train was almost wonderful. The tracks fit together nicely and stay in place even on the carpet. The sound effects are cute and the remote works well. The reason why I gave this only one star is because the train cars will not stay together. The first hour or so we had it there wasn't too much problem but after that every time my kids tried to play with it they just got frustrated because the train track pieces come apart so easily. It is a serious design flaw! They need to have the hooks hooking together vertically not horizontally. I tried to wire the hooks together so the cars would stay together but the way they horizontally hook the wire just slips right off so there is no way to fix it! It is also extremely frustrating for my kids to play with this because the train goes off track easily as well. That is to be expected if you get the train going too fast, the most frustrating design flaw is the way the cars are not securely able to hook together. I hope the makers of this train read these reviews and fix it or this must be meant as a display train not for actual play.

Another great train added to our collection
These larger-scale Lionel trains are perfect for our kiddos who play more on the rough side. This is the 4th "version" of those larger trains we purchased (we already have Polar Express, Diesel Construction, and Toy Story) and it did not disappoint. Once you get the hang of how to get them on the tracks, you'll never have a problem again. Great sounds, stays on the track, couplers keep train cars together. Couldn't ask for more from this one. Absolutely love it and will continue to purchase different styles of these trains. 5/5 stars, highly recommended!
