Wwe: Monday Night War - Shots Fired: Volume 1 [DVD]

The Greatest Years In Wrestling
This series has long been available on the WWE Network but if you're like me and still enjoy the physical format, this Blu Ray was my most awaited WWE release this year. This three disc sets for approx 11 and a half hours and contains the first ten hour long episodes of the show. Each episode ends with a new interview segment with Triple H and Sting, and disc 3 contains over an hour of bonus material not available on the DVD version.I thoroughly enjoyed this set, but have a couple of serious issues with it.WCW isnt represented on the front cover art, OK, maybe they will on Volume 2? No - The Rock is on the cover.I love Sting, and enjoyed the new post episode of interviews, but his replies are repetive sometimes "I don't remember" "I've never seen that match" or "I never heard of that"A small niggle maybe. Also, the biggest issue of all - ALOT of footage, interviews and audio are repeated from episode to episode. Seriously, there's a clip of Chyna holding, ahem, a large sausage, which is shown in episode 2, 3 and 4.Episodes focusing on particular superstars (Austin, Bret Hart and Foley) feel like condensed versions of their own previously released documentaries.I really enjoyed this set. and it brought back amazing memories of my favourite era in wrestling. Roll on Vol 2 on October, but the above little issues stopped the set from being a five star product. This set also has English subtitles.Full content listing below:DISC 1The War Begins- WWE’s Evolution- NWA to WCW- Raw Entertainment- Eric Bischoff’s Impact- Monday Nitro- Dirty TacticsPast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingThe Rise of The nWo- Scott Hall & Kevin Nash- Outsiders Invade WCW- The Third Man- Fake Razor & Diesel- Popularity of the nWo- Overexpansion- Making Their MarkPast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingDISC 2Embracing Attitude- A Declaration of Change- Sex Sells- Violence Rules- Audience Participation- nWo Getting Stale- Austin vs. McMahon- Raising the Stakes- New HeightsPast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingA New D-Generation X- Are You Ready?- Going Too Far- Reigns Come Off- A New D-Generation X- DX Invades WCW- Bischoff Calls Out Mr. McMahon- DX vs. Nation of Domination- DX ArmyPast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingDISC 3Have A Nice Day- Cactus Jack- Mankind- Three Faces of Foley- Foley Goes Through Hell- Mr. Socko- Champion- Rock ‘n’ Sock- Stepping AwayPast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingThe Hart Of War- Dependable Champion- Hit Man vs. HBK- Weighing the Options- Fallout with WWE- Arrival in WCW- Return to WWEPast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingFoundations Of War- Captivating the Audience- Changing the Landscape- Rising to the Top- Evolving- LeadersPast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingDISC 4The Austin Era- “Stunning” Steve Austin- ECW- Ringmaster- Austin 3:16- Injury to Opportunity- The Face of WWE- TrailblazerPast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingWho’s Next?- A Need for New Stars- The Look and Presence- The Streak- Champion- 173-1- WCW’s Biggest CreationPast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingFlight Of The Cruiserweights- A Need to Stand Out- Cruiserweight Division- Top Talent- Light Heavyweight Division- Being Ignored- Land of the AthletePast Episode Analysis with Renee Young, Triple H and StingBLU RAY EXCLUSIVESHulk Hogan vs. Big Bubba RogersNitro • September 4, 1995No Disqualification Match for the WWE ChampionshipThe Rock vs. MankindRaw • January 4, 1999Goldberg vs. Hugh MorrusNitro • September 22, 1997The Announcement of Monday NitroWCW Press Conference • August 14, 1995Nitro Announcement PromosA Montreal Conspiracy?DX Invasion – “Raw Footage”

Good price and good quality
Ordered this as part of an order of a few wrestling DVDs for my fiancé. All arrived very promptly and he was delighted with them. I was delighted with the cost of them too as they were a lot cheaper to buy than I had seen in stores and other sites. Happy household!

Not perfect but there's much fun to be had here
So what we have here is the first 10 episodes of The Monday Night War series that originally aired on the WWE Network (the other 10 are available on Volume 2 - Know Your Role) alongside some added comments from Triple H and Sting and some meagre Blu Ray exclusive extras. The episodes all run to a little under an hour and are each centred around individual subjects or themes rather than a multi part chronological journey through the fabled WWF v WCW war. It's a fairly comprehensive look at this time period (from a WWE point of view obviously) and has contributions from pretty much all the main players as well as the usual raft of current "superstars".Tackling the subjects individually inevitably leads to a fair amount of repetition from episode to episode which is particularly noticeable when watched back to back in this manner. Some of the interviews included are from the archive so it's likely you'll have seen much of them before somewhere, somehow. Having said that, it's still a whole heap of fun for the most part - spending so much time looking at what was such an incredible time to be a wrestling fan.The added comments from Tripper and Sting come at the end of each episode and are relatively interesting without ever being particularly life changing. The extras run to about an hours worth and include 3 matches. I've listed the episodes and extras below with a few comments.......The War Begins - A brief overview of the long term rivalry between Vince and Ted Turner. Then the introduction of Raw, then Nitro, then the defections etc etc. A tidy taster of what's to come. The Rise of The NWO - The title kind of sums it up. They changed the game and this proves they were TV gold (in the early going at least). Also covered here is the fake Diesel/Razor storyline in the WWF - bad times man, bad times.Embracing Attitude - A whistle stop tour of the era. Austin, DX, Venis, Godfather, Sunny, Sable, Foley, Rocky etc. You know the drill.A New D-Generation X - The full fun tale from the HBK/HHH genesis, through the rebirth after Wrestlemania 14 and beyond.Have a Nice Day - A look at Mick Foleys contribution to the war, taking in all his personas, Hell in a Cell, title wins and more. From hardcore to comedy and back again. The Hart of War - Whilst providing an interesting overview of Bret Harts part in the war, this inevitably focuses in on the Montreal Screwjob. There's not a great deal to say that hasn't been said but it's so momentous that it deserves its place here. We follow the story to its conclusion and get a sense of closure (I hope).Foundations of War - A slightly different angle to this one as it splits time between the two loyal rocks of the war - Undertaker and Sting. You could easily argue they both deserve their own episode but this draws some interesting comparisons. The Austin Era - The Stonecold story is more very well worn territory but it's classic stuff.Who's Next? - So this ones about Goldberg (obviously) and it's still evident to me that WWE aren't that fond of him for various reasons. Despite occasionally feeing like The Self Destruction of Bill Goldberg, this is still a good, fun, interesting episode.Flight of the Cruiserweights - Mysterio, Malenko, Guerrero, Liger, Jericho, Kidman etc - they're all here in a lesser told, but important part of the war when WCW was breaking new ground. Although in the end it of course becomes mostly about the guys who went on to succeed in WWF/E.And then there's the extras.......04/09/95 - Hulk Hogan v Big Bubba Rogers - From the first Nitro, this is a standard Hogan match. It's the aftermath which is of interest (kind of).04/01/99 - The Rock v Mankind - WWF Title - No DQ - Beautifully introduced by Tony Schiavone, this is a fun little match with an electric finish. That put some butts in the seats.22/09/97 - Goldberg v Hugh Morrus - The big guys debut and its a short, rudimentary match. Has historical value though.14/08/95 - Announcement of Monday Nitro Press Conference - This eventually hits the 26 minute mark but runs out of gas long before that. The camera work is amateurish and the sound quality is worse. Curiosity value only.Nitro Announcement promos - Short extensions of the press conference.A Montreal Conspiracy? - A 3 minute look at whether the Screwjob was actually all a big story cooked up by Vince and Bret. Yeah right.DX Invasion Raw Footage - 3 more minutes of unedited footage of when DX went and knocked on WCWs door. And that's your lot. Enjoy.

Great boxset, BUT viewing error
There seems to be an issue with the footage on all four dvds being zoomed in. When viewing the episodes, when it cuts to a person being interviewed, their title is chopped off the end of the screen.See the pocture added for yourself....I expect a dvd boxset I paid £20 to be able to sort a simple zooming issue for selling in retail in this day & age.
