McCormickPremium Brown Gravy Mix, 21 oz

The quality of the gravy is excellent, the size and taste are both good. I will definitely buy this again. Making gravy by hand is not difficult, but this is even easier and effective.

So good to be able to make a lot or a little gravy. McCormicks quality and great flavor. Easy, good value size instead of the little pouches. Keeps in the pantry. Can use to flavor, and thicken stews and soups.

I love McCormick Brown Gravy, so I was curious to try the premium version to see if it really is better. In several ways it is. In one important way, it is not.What's better:1) You mix the regular brown gravy in cold water, but this one you put it in boiling water. That means you can boil the water fast on full heat, and then dial the flame down when the water's boiling. So the gravy is ready faster. With the standard gravy, you can't blast the heat once the gravy mix is in the cold water - you have to do it slow and steady for consistency and so it doesn't boil over.2) Good thickness, even when reheated. This gravy has a great consistency and you can even put it in the fridge and reheat it without it getting gross and lumpy. That is one of the biggest drawbacks to the standard gravy.What's worse:1) The taste. It tastes good, but the standard gravy tastes better. It has a stronger flavor. This one is more mild. I found taste and texture very similar to the brown sauce that Ikea serves with its Swedish meatballs -- similar but not the same, as this one is perhaps a little less sweet. I like that sauce and I like this one too, but the standard gravy tastes a little better.All in all, I love the ease in preparation and the fact that it reheats well, and I'm willing to sacrifice the small edge in tastiness sometimes. The standard be my go-to gravy probably, in part because of the lower cost. But I love the ease of preparation and great reheating properties on this one.
