Q: At which part of the planting do I use the charcoal?

According to SerpaDesigns on Youtube (best info imo), he says to layer from the bottom: pebbles+mesh+charcoal+soil or rock mix+moss

I would say there was probably enough soil to fill a gallon milk carton. Just enough for my terrarium. But for 10 gallons if you are not filling it I’d get at least 3 mediums

Q: Is this live moss in the kit?

The description says ''decorative sheet moss" I've found that usually means it has been tinted and preserved. Not always though. Put some tiny pea size stones on the top soil between the plant and the moss so you can mist the moss frequently without wetting the plants you should see some tiny growth on the moss in a few weeks (looks like teenie, tiny light green buds) if it is alive. Takes longer to see growth in cool weather.

Q: How does this come packaged? Considering it for a gift

This kit is packaged with each item in a separate bag, so it is easy putting the dish garden or terrarium together.I would be pleased to receive this as a gift. There is just enough for one terrarium though; so if you wanted to, you could order the larger kit. Enjoy.
