I bought this chess set entirely for the silicone board, and wasnt expecting much. An individual single silicone board is the same price as this set.The board is a little thinner than my premium silicone board, but barely, and still perfectly functional. The pieces which I thought would be throw away quality are full size Staunton style, just not super heavy.These would be excellent for chess club start ups.

It's weird when you are buying a portable chess set and give it a bad review. This thing is perfect for a bring-along chess set. Full size and ready for a million matches. It is rugged enough for the park. the pieces feel great in your hand.We used to make chess sets out of paper in the Army and have fantastic chess matches and even tournaments. It certainly isn't the chess set that makes the player. If your chess game suffers because you use this chess set, you may take chess too seriously because the person you beat will not remember the chess pieces.

Easy to pack up and take with you. The board itself is of an interesting material, a little flimsy but meant to be flexible. The pieces themselves are good quality and regular sized. Overall a good product, love the case it comes with

The silicone mat lies flat, even after being folded into the case, and unfolds into a full size chess board that can be used on any hard surface. Case has good zipper, holds everything neatly, is about the size of a headphone case. The playing pieces are plastic, but feel heavy, good quality. The recipient of this gift is a chess fanatic, and had looked at many travel sets, but all felt cheaply made. He likes this set very well.

Pieces could be a little heavier, I think they're hollow. All in all though it's a good value for $20.
