This sprouting kit turned out to be very easy to use. The stackable trays let you grow multiple batches at once without taking up much counter space and the drainage design works well. You just rinse the seeds and the excess water collects in the bottom tray so there is no mess and no soil required. The clear trays are helpful because you can see the roots developing and monitor the moisture level which makes it easier to learn the routine. After a couple of days I started seeing sprouts and within the week they were ready to use. It is actually satisfying watching them grow day by day. All the pieces come apart for cleaning and rinse off quickly. It works best with small seeds like alfalfa, broccoli or other microgreens rather than larger beans but for salads sandwiches and toppings it is perfect. Overall this is a simple setup that makes growing fresh greens at home approachable even for beginners.

The cover works well, the drainage holes are perfect. I did an experiment with the 4 layers. One had coco mat 2 were plain (one above one below the coco mat) and the last tier was soil. The soil seed took off and outperformed the others. However when it came to harvest it, that was more problematic. I did harvest half with scissors and then set aside the rest to grow. The coco mat was a day and a half behind the soil in growth but it’s super easy to harvest, just pull the seedlings root and all right out of the mat. 😋 the trays that didn’t have anything to “hold on to” didn’t do so well. I don’t think it’s the fault of this product, I think it’s just a fact that the small seeds do better with that security layer. I’ve grown seedlings in jars off and on for years, this is far superior to jar seedlings. Easy to raise, easy to store, easy to harvest. The only thing I would change is to increase the height of the tiers, these are 1”plus the height of the mat. I would buy another one if this company made a taller version. Then I could use this one for starting seeds and the taller one for finishing them. You may be able to tell in the picture that the taller seedlings are bent over a bit while the others are just getting going. The empty corner is where I’ve harvested some for my sandwich, which means I’ll be able to reuse the coco mat! (Btw, I just cut pieces from a roll)

I've had the same 'ol round sprouting system for years, but it didn't store flat like this one does, so it took up way too much space, and it only had one drainage hole on each level. This one from PHAIN has drainage holes all around the perimeter of each tray and it has numbered trays that fit inside each other, when stored. And they stack on top of each other when in sprout mode. :-) Very cool. Now I can get rid of the old one that took up way too much space, because it didn't collapse down like these PHAIN Sprouting Kits do. I'm sure the round version of this kit works great too, but I really like the square version! Quality material, fairly thick plastic. I've got sprouts working in mine now. They're about 3 days old and doing great!

I honestly thought it was larger. A bit disappointed in the size. I won't return it. But I don't think it's worth the price for the size. Unless iisses the dimensions in the description.
