My leather Field Notes cover arrived and I was able to setup with a Moleskine notebook, etc., ready to rock ‘n’ roll! I am delighted with everything about this cover—rustic leather, well constructed, and good looks. I appreciate those who suggested conditioning the leather, which I will do. I am quite happy and pleased with this purchase!

My short-term memory is not what it used to be. I decided to start carrying and using a Field Notes book, but I wanted a leather cover for it. I searched Amazon and elsewhere and concluded this cover was the best value for the money. It is made with soft (distressed) leather. The color is a nice dark brown, but scuffs easily. They call it Crazy Horse leather. The nice thing about it is it ages well and fairly quickly. The scuffs almost rub off. It's very forgiving. The cover includes a card/ID pocket and a pen loop. I found that the pen centers in the cover better when you use a pen with a pocket clip and clip the loop from the outside. It helps the cover close more easily, because the pen rests against the spine of the notebook when closed. Stitching looks to be good quality and is only where needed. I expect this will hold up well over time and get better looking with age and use. For the money, I couldn't be happier.

Well made and pretty rustic looking. Imagine what Indiana Jones would choose for a notebook cover and you'll get the idea.

The journal cover is really most useful for carrying the journal out and about during your day rather than sitting on your shelf looking pretty. But the journal part being removable seems like this is an intentional choice. The cheaper exchangeable Field Notes notebooks fit in perfectly and while there have been a few pens that didn't sit properly in the sleeve I think that was more related to the type of pen than any reflection on the cover.

I'm impressed at the quality for the price bracket. It's not perfect, but you'd be much better off buying this than the Field Notes leather cover for $70 more. Get it, you won't be disappointed!

I am very pleased with my purchase of the leather cover. The construction and feel of the cover is great. This is exactly what I was looking forward.Will see how it holds up as I use it over time. I do wish a pen was included.
