Very convenient
Worked! I used this to check out all my old drives I had. I could verify what was on them without actually opening up my PC and installing them. Super convenient.

If you are trying to use this for an sata DVD drive, don't!
Don't make the same assumption I did. I assumed that since it was sata and my PC DVD drive was also sata, and that there was an external power supply for it, that it'd work just fine. It does not! This will only work for sata HARD DRIVES. I should have asked before buying it. Why would I need to operate a PC sata DVD drive outside my PC you might ask? Simple, my PC has no external port options for installing a DVD drive that needs to be accessed from outside the case. I've looked around and it's hard to find a good gaming PC these days that has that option. The case is designed to be overloaded with cooling fans on all sides - front, back, top, bottom but no place for and externally accessible DVD/CD drive. All my hard drives in it are internal ssd's. It has room for non ssd hdd's, but nothing that can be accessed without taking off the side panels. While I use my gaming PC mostly for gaming, I also have need to burn DVDs. Regardless, I do have an external DVD/CD drive that is thin and designed for laptops that I use at the moment, but it's cumbersome and keeps sliding around my table when it gets bumped by as little as a page of paper. I'll keep looking for something else that will work, but this one didn't. As a side note about this SATA to USB adapter, both the USB and power cable are very short. Many people have to stretch for outlets if they want all their PC parts to plug in, like the PC itself, multiple monitors and sound cards etc. The power cord for this device makes it - challenging to accomplish that. Perhaps the maker of this device might consider adding a couple feet to it's length.

Functions well, with or without power.
Title. Power-in cord is detachable, so you don't need to buy a separate power-less SATA adapter.
