Piece of garbage
Don’t waste your time and money to buy this piece of garbage. Doesn’t work instead of having one long handle, comes with 5 small pieces that you have to screw together to have a long handle but every time that you use become loose and have to screw them again and again, totally garbage, goes straight to the trash can. Update: first job second time using it and it broke, tried to save a few bucks buying this crap and I ended up been scammed.

Great choice for small jobs
I found the reviews on this item puzzling in a couple of ways - they seemed to have a high variance (people seemed to love it or hate it) and it was described by different reviewers differently (some said the handle was riveted on, some said it was screwed to gether). AI summary indicated it was frequently returned. I had a small job (relaying and enlarging a small brick patio area) that really would benefit from good prep of the foundation and I didn't want to rent a large compactor ($80 or more) for such a small job. I am very satisfied with this purchase. First, it was accurately described by the seller (size, weight, handle screwed together) and it worked very well for my small job. I also like that it breaks down into a small, compact storage size (since the handle breaks down into pieces). A small nit is that a picture provided by the seller showed it being a bit taller than a man (who was holding it) but that was a short man - it is 5ft tall when assembled, but that was fine with me (I am 6'2"). If you have a larger job (area or amount of compacting needed due to deep, loose soil) then this would not be a great choice - it is only 8x8inches and weighs about 10lbs. I can only assume those who were disappointed either did not read the description very closely and somehow expected this small, inexpensive had tool should work as well as the the electric compactors (weighing at least 100 lbs and costing hundreds of dollars) or the even bigger/heavier gas compactors. I would say if you have a well prepared foundation (drain rock/gravel/sand) and the area is under 100 ft and will not be used for automobiles or heavy equipment, this is a great tool. If you are installing a driveway, rent a real compactor for the preparation.

High quality tool
Found it hard to believe this item could ship in a box so small but it assembled to a full sized tool Only complaint was the handle sections kept loosening.

Base is good, handle is cheap.
This definitely works for light tamping. I spent 15 mins and the handle started to collapse. It looks as if I am able to drill out a couple rivots and put a solid pipe in it. This will also help with extra weight to drive it down.

Just buy one from your local store
It's ok. Does the job. The handle screws together in multiple places. When using, it tends to come unscrewed in the handle and start banging around. Not very comfortable to use

Works great for leaves in the fall
Trying to find something that compresses leaves in your yard waste bin can be hard to find. This product does it perfectly. It's cheap, adjustable, just the right weight, and can be upgraded to fit your needs. As you can see in the pic, I added a piece of 13''x10'' plywood to expand the compressing ability. The weight is just right to fully compress the leaves in the bin while making as little work out of the process as possible. I love the adjustability of the handle which allows for any height. I know this product was designed for other landscaping chores, but for leaves in the fall, you can't beat it.
