This book is everything a comic should be and more, this book is perfection, 10/10 Grant Morrison did not fail

Unpopular opinion time: early Grant Morrison is not as good as you've been told. Oh, it's still GOOD... but it's just good. The superhero stuff in here is pretty good, including the use of Vixen and B'Wana Beast. The problem is Grant made Animal Man basically a self-insert, which he all but admits in the final issue which is probably the SINGLE most pretentious thing I've ever seen in a comic book. Animal Man and him talking. He makes it all about himself, though this time he includes himself and not just Buddy. When it happened I can see people being freaked out by it and thinking it's great, but time has not been kind. And this is much, MUCH worse than when Alan Moore put himself in his final issue of Swamp Thing, as there the insert was a wink-nudge, here Grant PUTS HIMSELF IN THE BOOK. The art is pretty great throughout, and the coloring is good for the time period. Tatjana Wood did such a great job coloring in that era its so unfortunate that it was before digital coloring and printing. The book is by no means bad. It's just not the slam dunk you've been told it was.
