Excellent for protecting your guitar with 1 important caveat
1 of the most frequent causes of guitar damage is inappropriate humidification. Either too high or too low humidity can reduce a $6,000 dollar high end guitar to a $6 dollar pile of firewood, faster than anything (with the possible exception of leaving it in the locked trunk of your car during 100 degree days - but thats just dumb). The Bovida large instrument humidity set is a nearly perfect solution to this problem. When humidity goes too high the packs will absorb moisture and protect your guitar from swelling and deforming. And when environmental humidity goes too low, the packs will release moisture, preventing the guitar from uncontrolled, uneven shrinking, which results in expensive to repair cracks in the wood. There is 1 caveat: if you live in an area which has a period of extreme sustained low humidity during the year, oe 49% humidity packs are probably not going to work for you completely. You'll be just fine 8 months out of the year. however from November through the end of February in the Northeast at least the margins from a pack at 49% cannot maintain sufficient humidity for most guitars. you'll want to swap in Bovida's 58% humidity packs during that. - they fit in the same holders- and you'll be fine during that time as well

Most important piece of protective gear for your wood instrument after a case!
As always Boveda has the best quality products and it was shipped very quickly with everything that was supposed to be in the package. This product is a 90 day fix it and forget it problem solver that allows you to keep optimum humidity for your large wood stringed instruments storage case regardless of the humidity levels outside your instrument case without dealing with trying to remember to re-wet messy sponges and allows you to avoid possible water damage to your instrument. It allows you to easily avoid fret sprout from shrinking necks or tuning issues from warped necks and so many other unpleasant, costly and likely damages to your instruments that assuming you are not a luthier can not fix effectively yourself, or perhaps you are a luthier, but would prefer to not allow the possibility of damage to your beloved instruments reguardless of the fact that you can fix it yourself. Then this product is for you! A elegant solution to an age old problem. I buy a new starter set to put in the case of every new guitar that I buy because it is so dry here pretty much round. Thank you Boveda! You have been my favorite accessory for instruments since I bought my first Boveda starter set with my first guitar! I hope you never stop making these products!

Keeping it simple
Ive damaged a couple guitars in my day by drying out. Tried several different types with mixed effectiveness. These packs do a nice job. I put two in each guitar case. They last about 3 months. Pretty good.

The moisture automatically regulated by Boveda packs
A great device for keeping your instrument case at an ideal humidity, The Boveda Music Large Starter Kit is a simple, effective solution. Three Boveda humidity packs, 2 holders, and easy-to-follow instructions included. The moisture automatically regulated by the packs also helps prevent problems of cracking or warping as they occur in fluctuating climates. The kit is low maintenance, long-lasting, and perfect for stringed instruments, including guitars and violins. The initial investment is modest, but the protection goals provided make the cost of replacement packs worthwhile over the years. Overall, it's a requirement for any musician who wants to keep their instruments breathing longer. I have 2 humidifiers in the room and on top of that, I have these packs in all displays and cases. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Doesn't work for my situation - read carefully
I bought this for my guitar as the humidity where I air live varies wildly according to the season. It has a hard case. I have a quality humidistat to see what the humidity is. I had high hopes. When I put the packs in the case, the humidity was 72%. I left the case closed for 2 days. Upon opening, the humidity was 71%. I left the case open and put the packs back into the bag as the room humidity dropped to 63%. After it equalized, I put the packs back into the case. A day later, the humidity had not changed. They don't work for me. I have revised my review from 1 to 4 stars. The product did not work for my situation, but I have had excellent customer service. They suggested I use the high humidity packs for my area. I will be giving them a try and review upon receipt and trial. Again, this particular pack does not work for high humidity situations. There is another (B49-high humidity) set that I am told should be used Excellent customer service. The best.

The Best Humidity Packs
Great for your acoustic instruments. When you spend a good chunk of change on a wooden musical instrument, proper humidity is a must. Easy to use... No mess.

Protect your guitars and other instruments
Why do we need these now when we didn't need them years ago? Wood is very different than it was decades ago and is more sensitive to temperature and humidity changes and can bend, warp, and crack if not kept properly. Protect your instrument. Also know these can be rehydrated and reused. Google it. I put mine in a clear sealed plastic kitchen container for a few weeks with a small container of water and a hygrometer. They'll last you a long time and save you costly luthier bills.

Does absolutely nothing (or maybe I'm doing something wrong)
I bought a new Martin parlor guitar, my house is very dry, between 30-35rh most days in the winter (now) as we use wood heat. Bought a humidifier but it only boosted humidity slightly. Then I saw these so decided to try them. Put one in a pouch and put the pouch in the guitar case with the guitar, along with a hygrometer. The hygrometer works as it reads the same as the readout on the humidifier. Open the case after a day, 35rh, same as the house. Try it for a week. Same. Move it to a different spot in the case (not many available). Same. So try the double pouch - not sure why 2 would be necessary but might as well give it a whirl since I paid a lot for a guitar that I still don't dare to take out and play. Same. Too much a pain in the butt to return for me. Am I doing something wrong? Am I supposed to smash the pouches on the floor like an ice pack? Totally frustrated.

I've been having problems with fret sprout on my acoustic during the cold months so I got (what I thought) were the holders for 3 humidifying gel packs. I also bought a 3 pack so I ended up with 6--I don't know why I didn't think the packs were included but they were. The packs are so thin that I was able to double up and put in twice the amount in the holders. 2 at the headstock and 4 in the soundhole instead of 1 and 2 respectively. I figure with double the amount of packs on my case the less amount of work each pack has to do to keep the relative humidity at roughly 50%. It seems to be doing well, despite keeping my guitar in a padded soft case rather than a hard case. When I take the guitar out I put the humidity packs back in the case and keep it closed. I'll probably be able to use them until the end of this winter and start with fresh packs next winter, about 5-6 months total. That's a long time so I'd say that's pretty good value. They're just simple cloth holders. Not a fancy design but they do what they intend to. Stick one behind the headstock in the case, drape the other over the strings and into the soundhole. Never had a pack fall out inside the body... My old humidifying system was a travel soapdish with a few holes drilled into it and a damp sponge. This is a nice step up.
