The Little Blue Box of Tricks
Update: 10-11-2024 - The replacement dock arrived the day after speaking to customer service, amazing! I have now had the new dock installed for a couple of months, and have only experienced a few disconnections, and I noticed they were specific to Solid State Drives or SSDs. It seems like an SSD compatibility issue as I have noticed SSDs can be flaky over time on other devices like my Samsung TV and PS5? My multiple regular magnetic hard drives do not have the same problem. So my conclusion is the dock works fine, but you may have occasional problems specific to SSDs disconnecting. Power recycling the dock reconnects the SSD. Dual monitors, Hard drives, keyboard & mouse, card readers, USB C, A, and Thunderbolt work fine. Overall still a good product. Back to 5 stars for the excellent customer service. Update: 10-09-2024 – Random Disconnections Some reoccurring issues to update on. I have a Macbook Pro M3 Pro 2024. I am currently using all of the 3no rear USB 10Gbps ports, the 2.5 Gigabit port, Dual monitors HDMI and rear USB-C 40gbps, the two upstream USB-C ports, and the front USB-C PD port. I have had the dock running 24/7 for just over a month now, and for the most part it has been fine albeit running a little warm for my liking, but not too hot to touch. However, during that time I have experienced some random disconnections of 3 external hard drives connected to the USB ports, while the monitors, keyboard, and mouse are fine. When this happens there is nothing else for it other than to power cycle the dock, and then the drives reconnect without a problem. This is annoying, especially when carrying out a large data transfer only to find that it has been interrupted because the dock disconnected midway through! The disconnections have occurred at least 3 times over a period of 5 weeks, so I decided to contact Ivanky and seek a solution. Ivanky responded the within 24 hours, and sent me a link to download the latest firmware to update the dock. As an IT professional I have carried out numerous firmware/software updates however, I could not get the firmware setup to initiate, I kept getting an error saying that the file was either damaged or corrupted? (This was the same error that I got with an earlier version of the firmware, when I attempted an update after I first got the dock)? Despite searching on Google/YouTube I could not find any solutions or workarounds to update the firmware. Eventually I gave up and contacted Ivanky again, they responded within 48 hours. Ivanky suggested exchanging the dock FOC for a new one, which I agreed to. I am waiting for Ivanky to get back to me with the shipping details. Although pleased with the dock's overall build quality and operation, I cannot ignore the random disconnects. I'll update on how the exchange goes and the performance once the new dock arrives, and I have soaked tested it for at least a month. Original review: This iVanky dock works like a dream, firstly it replaced my 100w charger, then I connected, a KVM, HDMI 4K monitor, USB 3.0 hub, GB ethernet, and 20w PD to a desktop wireless charger. Everything just works like a charm, no problems going into standby or waking up. Basically PnP, and forget. Top quality bit of kit.

Brilliant
Seems great so far. I got this so in can run extra displays from my Mac Studio. All seem to work great. All displays running smoothly at 4k 60hz. Much better than another dock I tried that used displaylink. Loads of extra IO so it should keep me going well into the future. Feels sturdy, looks good on the desk. Only criticisms are 1. doesn't have an on/off switch which is a bit of a pain. 2. the included dual thunderbolt cable doesn't work with Mac Studio as the connectors on the cable don't line up with the ports on the Mac. Wasted cable. a shame.

Only product I found for Mac heavy user
I am a heavy user of my MB Pro M4 Max. I use 3 to 4 screens, including the MB's screen. Additionally, I use multiple Windows operating systems simultaneously and have Teams video calls and other resource-intensive apps. All these are pretty demanding for CPU, GPU and RAM. I was using DisplayLink system and my MB started crashing almost every few hours. I found that this was due to kernel panics triggered by the DisplaLink system. Then I started using one app at a time, but that was a big compromise to my workflow; however, the crashing did not stop either. I was really hoping if there is any Thunderbolt docking system that can cope with this. Then I found this one. Not very cheap, but it uses the dual Thunderbolt ports of the MB for additional power. Took the leap of faith and have been using it for around a month now. Dual Thunderbolt chips are doing the magic for demanding tasks. Not a single issue and going strong with whatever task you throw at it. Pretty happy so far.

Understand the fundamental limits of your Mac before buying
While this unit is well made and does the job it advertises, it can not exceed the limitations of the host Mac in terms of display support. For example, if you have a MAX chip, your Mac can support a maximum of four external displays. This dock will not change or extend that capability, so while you might think that you could have displays connected to HDMI and Thunderbolt, and then have another four displays connected to the dock, you would be wrong... That said, this dock does provide a nice tidy box containing various extra ports and the ability to connect (most of) your external devices over the convenient custom double-thunderbolt cable. If that's what you want, this does the job very well.

Great dock, and great customer service
Great dock, exactly what I needed for my new M4 Pro - I needed something with a plethora of ports and connection points, and this delivered. Easy setup, got it running in minutes. Had a slight issue with one USB port, but after speaking to the customer service at iVanky, they shipped out a replacement straight away, which was great. I'd definitely recommend this, and iVanky.

It works well with the M1 MacBook Pro MAX. The Thunderbolt components are well-designed and work great. The card readers are OK, but there is nothing to write home about. The readers are older design Type 1. The front RCA headset plug is not working, at least for me. I have not tried a different headset yet. What I like about it is the speed of the T-Bolt ports. That makes for the RCA. As a designer, I would switch some ports for better cable management. Overall, it is a great product, albeit a bit expensive, but it offers a lot of ports and high standards.

Update 5/2025 Customer service took care of issues very promptly. Says will work with the MAC Mini M4 but USB C cable that they sent has one end of the cable with the two USB C connectors together, and it cant be used on the Mac Mini M4

I've just purchased this TB5 dock for my Mac mini M4 Pro, and it's actually replaced two other docks - a Caldigit TS5 station - the "low-end" Caldigit TB5 dock + and OWC TB4 dock. This unit has so many ports, and I have *a lot* of devices attached to my setup - some legacy TB3 LaCie 2Big Raid Drives - just used as Time Machine devices now - 3 monitors - one of which uses the HDMI on the Mac Mini, and lots of other USB devices - Webcams, Mikes, slow old USB 3 drives, just for Photo / Image backup, Blu Ray external that requires additional power. This unit eats it all up. And the array of ports is fantastic. I've been able to get rid of dongles that previously provided elements such as Optical Audio to a sound-bar - on the dock. I can't confirm the 3-display at 60 Hz claim, because that's not how I'm using it, but for my particular use case, and at the price, it's a great device, and at a very reasonable price. Other TB5 docks seem to be considerably more expensive. Also, build is exceptionally solid, it has internal cooling. I stand mine up vertically, and I just checked, doesn't feel hot at all. It's actually cool to touch - not like my Mac Mini which always keeps reasonably warm. Strongly recommended, particularly now it's available locally in Australia.

Amazing form and function. It looks great, has all the ports you would need. It's a solid box - sturdy on a desk. It would be a bit heavy to carry around, so I'm not sure it's a great portable dock, but for a desk with a laptop docking, it's perfect. The form matches the style you expect when using objects with Apple products, so it's a perfect MacBook pair. It's a pricier option, but you get what you pay for here. Absolutely no regrets with the purchase.
